And they were just as bad if not worse before he got there. Tampa were a bad offensive team devoid of much talent.

But they were a running team, they were 11, 8, 3 and 4th in league in rushing attempts from 96 to 99. Defenses knew pretty much what was coming.

In 96, Rhett was a holdout and hindered the team missing half the season and was subsequently phased out. In 97 they drafted Dunn and he barely fell short of 1000 yards rushing 500 yards receiving. As a team they rushed for 1900+ yards and 15 TD's. In 98, they ran for over 2100 yards, which was forth overall in the league. In 99, Alstott started to emerge as the primary runner and fell just short of 1000 yards, as a team they finished with just over 1700 yards, but they did pound it and ground the clock with 502 rushing attempts which aided in getting that 11-5 record. It should also be noted that Dunn and Alstott added about 800 more yards in the short passing game that year.

Lets also keep in mind how young that team was. Dilfer 94 was horrible before Shula got there. Alstott was added in 96, Dunn and Anthony in 97, Green in 98, King in 99.

If you want to call me mind blowingly stupid for considering those facts and stats good, go ahead. And BTW, you've used the Thelt line before, try to be original next time. It would also be awesome if you wouldnt drag this thread into a world of insults and keep to the topics. Do you really need to insult both me and Thelt over this discussion? If you disagree, say so and move along, nobody is seeking your approval on the matter. I was talking to Mags anyway before once again you butted your head in starting shit. Why do even support the Panthers? Cam sucks, Rivera sucks, Hardy sucks, CJ sucks, DW sucks, Shula sucks, Keek sucks, Alexander sucks. The only guy you care to actually support is a friggen Brown now.

Fair enough. But they also had to fire Dungy to get to the next level also.

I dont however expect Shula to run the same offense he did in Tampa. Are we all aware he has been with us for 2 years already?

Im not sayign we made the best decisions, Ive already made my feelings clear. Im just trying to bring a little bit of positivity, its not the end of the world that Shula got promoted. We could have gone with Shurmer or McCoy.

I prove you wrong time after time after time and you keep coming up with excuses instead of acting like you have a pair and owning up to the fact that you're clearly wrong. Again, you being ignorant about football is ok. You being belligerent about that ignorance is not.

Thelt is a convenient way for you to see how you behave, since you clearly don't get it just from being corrected. Lately you've been posting things that are so absurd that absolutely no one agrees with you while multiple people repeatedly express disagreement with your position and posts facts proving you wrong. Yet you don't stop. That's what was so frustrating about Thelt. Everyone will be wrong, myself most certainly included. What made Thelt and now makes you so frustrating is that you don't react to those facts and statistics proving you wrong, you simply keep repeating the same disproven, discredited nonsense like a broken record. That's not only annoying, but it undermines the very purpose of discussion. It's perfectly fine that you raised the question of whether or not Shula was really as bad as we thought, but once we proved that he was, that's the point at which you needed to shut your mouth. Instead you make excuses and continue with the same bullshit.

    edit:
Please note that I do not toss the insults right away. I try and try and try to talk you out of really dumb statements before I eventually lose patience and call you what you are.

To get a legitimate offense, right?

Shula is not better than either of those two.

Who cares about all this. The coaching staff will be gone in a year. That's why Rivera got to stay. We will suck next year hopefully because we deHurney ourselves of shit contracts. Then get a NEW coaching staff and start anew. Unless we take SERIOUS steps to clean up contracts we are further fucked

Why the fuck would anybody but analready insider come here to be an OC, knowing he will prolly be gone after 2013 anyway?

We're gonna make do, like we always have. 7-9

2013 is actually a better chance for the team to win than 2014, which is when all those contracts will have to be addressed. So look for 2015 as the time when the Panthers can start moving in a new direction.

Exactly. If we wanted to reload and retool, this was the year to do it in.

And Why would they want to come here? Because it's an NFL job, a chance for Jackson to get back on the wagon as being an OC after his fall from grace when he got all insane and shit with the Raiders. He would jump at the chance----and the fact is, the defense improved by strides last year -- so if we got a bright and innovative mind in like Jackson, while not sacrificing an aspect of the game like Chud sometimes did -- we could actually improve!

It wasn't a matter of no one wanting to join our staff. They wanted to. Both Shurmur and Jackson wanted to be the OC here. We chose Shula over two men far more deserving, though I would actually argue against Shurmur coming here.

McCoy wouldn't have been an option, because it would've been a lateral move.

But McCoy would've been better than Shula. By a mile. McCoy catches a lot of shit here, but he's a Panther alum, and he's a bright young mind. Is he ready to be a head guy? Probably not. But as an OC, I wouldn't object like I do with Shula.

I don't see the fuss here, exactly, with people being upset with this guy. He's a man with a proven track record both as a coordinator and a head coach at a major college program. His results have been, almost across the board, poor.

celt- brother, I want to just say I get where you're going. In a nutshell, Shula had less of a chance to succeed in his prior major gigs than he does now. Let's give him a chance.

In the end, that's the only choice we have as fans.

Does it diminish my hope? Yes. For me, it's despair. Dramatic maybe, but despair is the word that accurately describes how I feel about this coming season.

I think it's a slippery slope though, to argue FOR him. The stats you posted actually work against the job he's done.

Nothing we can do now. At minimum, I just hope a true QBs coach is hired.
