I wonder what the deciding factor was in hiring Gettleman over Ross...and if Ernie favored one over the other. Scouting experience?

I should have re-read earlier posts. My questions were pretty much answered. Just seemed like everyone thought Ross was who Ernie was originally pushing, but all of that changed.

That article notes that the Giants already had their own people charting that data, that PFF requested a meeting with the Giants and not the other way around, and that the Giants are provided with PFF's content but do not pay for it. Having been in the statistical analysis industry for a while, it's pretty common for sites to claim a special association whenever teams accept their data, but those teams are all building and relying upon their own information. Anything they get from elsewhere is merely a supplement. I should know, having done a project for a major league baseball team that they ended up using.

I'm interested in this as well. My belief was that they would keep the roster as intact as possible, but Gettleman's experience and authority presumably means he'll be doing whatever the hell he wants to.

Just saw this. Mostly glad we have someone in place and this didn't drag out. He appears to have all the right credentials and the scouting experience is huge. And he does have a kind face.

Does Beane get offered an Assistant GM position?

That's some good stuff. Bookmarking it for future reads. You would think teams in general would show alot more value in scouting and have more folks doing it. Hope this is the case with Gettleman and the Panthers going forward

I saw on Twitter yesterday that he is going back to his old position of Director of Football Ops.
