Lovie is in that same category as a John Fox or Jeff Fisher. A tenured, good-but-not-great coach who's had a lot of mediocre seasons. I think he'll probably get another HC opportunity, and rightfully so. Don't really want him here though. If we actually change coaches, I'm hoping it's someone with an offensive background who'd be inclined to keep the defensive staff intact.

those guys should've been. I don't know that any, other than Norv, made any sense to re-hire in the first place. But yeah, Lovie and Reid will coach again here, and I doubt they take time off.

oh, I don't think it'd be that. It's the "JR kept trying to get Dungy, and he's the closest thing to Dungy you can get" thing.

FWIW, it wouldn't be a bad fit. He'd bring in his D staff - I guess two guys who worked for Lovie are here already, but they both chose to go - and could honestly assimilate the offensive staff. If not, it wouldn't stray far. Ron Turner, Martz, and apparently even Tice, ran what we run.

I really want their ST coach. More than April or Dehaven.

and yeah, that's the challenge with Lovie. He's shit with timeouts, challenges, and so on. I don't think he'd bring any sort of upgrade with that. But, Fox had his challenges here on that too.

If you would consider hiring Lovie Smith, you might as well stay with what you have now in Ron Rivera. They run similar systems on both sides of the ball. Rivera would have a leg up on Smith due to his familiarity and relationship with the players.

Or have kept Fox. I think the joke has somehow been taken seriously.

that's the thing. I don't have a problem with the systems we run (I like what we do better right now honestly, though some of the best facets of the defense got gone during its success this year).

it's just another reason Richardson pisses me off... whether of not we want to keep Rivera, he shouldn't string him along while teams are interviewing for coaching jobs... Not saying he would be inline for one, but it's basically keeping him from finding a new one if they do part ways with him. It's just fucked up.

As far as I have heard no fired coaches from other teams have hired new coaches. Reid was supposed to be all but done in Arizona and now he's meeting with the Chiefs in route to Cardinalville. Coaches are hired to be fired. Nature of the business.
    • Richardson must already have a good feeling he is going to get the coach he wants (Cowher, Gruden or whatever name you want to pull out)
    • or a coach became available that no one thought would and JR likes better (Lovie, again pulling names out of my ass. )
    • That or the new GM he wants said let me hire my own guy or no thanks. (My guess)

Rivera can't interview for any other jobs while everyone else is out getting them... Richardson is an asshole, he should commit or cut his ass...
