I think we miss the intangibles Shockey brought, his worth was more than the yards and TDs IMO. The dual TE's created an extra threat that had to be accounted for. Shockey may have aged but he had to be respected. Plus he was worth a damn as a blocker.

But for all our passing last year it wasnt until we refocused on running the ball that we started getting a few wins. 34 struggled finding holes the first half of that season too. You can't honestly expect guys that constantly practise pass protection to suddenly excell in the run game when you finally decide to run the ball. It obviously takes time for them to jive together.

Weve kinda gone about this ass backwards. We should have started Cams career focusing on the ground game and letting the passing game develop over time. Thats how we built the team. Instead we went pass happy trying to prove to the world that Cam wasnt a running QB.

If we intend to pass on first down and chuck it deep on 3rd and shorts you should at least make sure you attain the right personel to make it work with more consistancy. Not the total disconnect that appears to have happened. Intsead of busting 90 odd million on RB's and FB's you'd think someone might have suggested a decent WR or 2.

Hopefully next year the offensive philosophy matches the talent at hand or we at least get guys that do.

If we invest in the OL next year and have a renewed faith in running the damn ball I fully expect to see the re-emergence of our 2 RB's.

For whatever it's worth, even though Oregon uses spread elements, Chip Kelley runs the ball far more often than he passes.

Stu had like 1700 yards rushing his final year at Oregon.

What a disconnect, just hard to understand. GM spending big $ on RBs and an OC who wants to be cute.

I have a hard time getting what there is to like about what Chud has done this year. I think ultimately Rivera is to blame for not overseeing him but Chud fucked up big time IMO.

Carolina's yards per play is still well above average and it's not like it wasn't already clear last year that Chudzinski views running backs as a luxury. He shouldn't have to change his play-calling to cover Hurney's mistakes.
