To anyone who expected the offense to be so bad this year, congratulations.

I did expect the defense to improve just by Rivera's record as DC, plus he said he was gonna be more hands on the defense this year. I think his big fuckup was not seeing what was happening on offense until it was too late.

It appears DeAngelo has hit a major decline, which we probably should have seen coming. The offensive line has been hurting, and I don't think Cam has "regressed" but the league has clearly identified ways to limit him and this offense.

I like what McDermott and Rivera are doing with the defense, which is one of the reasons I dread starting over again.

yeah, I don't know what's to be helped there.
If they think Chud's the guy, or deserves a shot, fair enough. I think it's safe to say there's concern over doing that, at this point, though.

Really only saves you a day or so on your search to not have a guy in place, because you have to fire that guy, but Carolina's search is going to lag a bit anyway.

Unless they wanted to hire a head coach without having a GM input on that decision, and/or wanted to hire a head coach who isn't currently in the league (you could talk to that type guy before the season ends).

I agree with you. I really hope whoever takes over next takes whatever steps are necessary to not lose the progress this team has made on defense. They really played well enough to beat Denver today, the offense and special teams just did them no favors.

A new staff will inevitably decide to do their own stuff. I don't know if it's realistic to keep McDermott as a holdover but I certainly wouldn't mind it.

First few minutes are worth watching. Just remember to shut it off after the first Olsen TD.

I more or less believe in all of the coaches on board, schematically, but a lot of guys came because of connections to Rivera or Chud (or were college coaches they pulled up for some fucking reason). I'd love to keep on a Steve Wilks for instance, but he's here because of Rivera.

Which, it'll be interesting to see Rivera's next move, too. Plenty of options, and he'd have a solid staff to bring with him.

It's hard to say. Meeks went from having, at one point, a top 1/3 defense despite it being on a team with the 2010 Panthers offense, and him being here being a good thing, to a defensive secondary collapse and his firing. You can never completely tell.
