If the offense is as successful here as it at oregon the defense can get the fuck over it. And once again TOP isn't as important in a league that's so generous to passing games.

No! No! No! A thousand times No!

I don't want the latest college coach who thinks the gimmicky stuff he does in college will work in the NFL.

When Chip Kelly gets to the NFL, he'll be done and back in college in 3 years. I don't want to loose 3 years!

I'm conflicted about him. He's a brilliant coach, but he has zero NFL background. And it's not really the style I want to see us go with.

Honestly I really like our coaching staff right now, even if Rivera is a shitty HC.

I wouldn't be opposed to him. It even looks like a good fit in the idea that spread and option principles are rampant around the league.

But, the option probably won't last, and I don't know if it's better for Newton to go with a coach that wants to develop that part quickly. Guy's gotta be a passer, or all this ends up not working.

It makes sense that, removing Richardson from the thought process, possibly for the first time, an O coach could creep into this, and Newton being an asset that needs to resolve itself quickly it makes sense to use a coach that would maximize what he can do. It's not a requirement, as we've seen, but there could be a thought process there.

Kelly uses sabermetrics and thinks outside the box, so he could do some interesting things here. I don't know if I like his ideals about going for it on as many 4th downs. Belichick has sought his advice. That's not a bad sign.

I'd be thrilled. If Belichick thinks he's a good coach and that his stuff is worth bringing to the NFL, that's enough for me.

    Re NFL coaches and Kelly:

"When I got fired from football, I wanted to learn about football, and it started with Oregon,'' Gruden said. "I wanted to learn the spread option, and Chip Kelly was nice enough to come down (to Florida) and spend a week with me.''

That was in February, a month after Tampa Bay fired Gruden. The Bellotti-to-Kelly succession plan was announced a month after that. Around that time, Kelly called Gruden and asked if he wanted to be his offensive coordinator with the Ducks.

"There's some truth to that,'' Gruden said. "When I got fired, I opened up an office. I called it the FFCA, the fired football coaches of America, and I was really excited about learning some things I didn't know anything about, and one of them was the spread offense. I started with Oregon because I have a lot of respect for what they've done.''

"A couple weeks later he called me up and said, 'Look, how 'bout you come out here, spend a year with us, learning the spread. I almost did it. My wife wasn't real fired up about me jumping back into coaching, but yeah, there's some truth to that.''

I wouldn't know how to feel if we hired him. I'd be excited, but also a little bit worried. It would be like the first time I slept with a married woman.

to have a shot at Chip Kelly, a GM would have to be hired before the end of the season. With Alabama going down, the Ducks have a legit shot at the BCS championship now...
