I complained about being personal and insulting. I would hope you have actual proof of that, but I won't expect it. And, again, I post, you're going to say I'm doing it to get a rise. I stop, you'll say you were right and it's why I stopped.

I'm sorry you don't want to talk about the cap in a cap thread. I get nothing out of you being upset. June cuts are relevant. I can ask an uninterested 3rd party with cap experience, if you want.

You continue to post in this thread because crapping it up was your goal all along. And you complain about other people seeking out conflict and that being bad for the board, never admitting that you're as guilty of that behavior as anyone.

I already addressed June 1st cuts ad nauseum. Whether you're a June 1st cut or not doesn't change the total amount of the cap hit, which is why it doesn't need to be listed. In fact, listing it often confuses people who think that only the first part actually applies.

the total amount of the cap hit is not the only relevant part. People want to know the net effect - how much is saved, how much is charged. That a June cut happens over two years is not the same as it happening over one. Being charged one million for cutting a player now, versus saving three and charging four in a future year, is a lot different than saying "it's four million either way."

It is, and it's definitely the only part relevant to this thread. The total cap hit remains the same regardless, so talking about smaller numbers often confuses people into thinking the cap hit will be less than it really is. Again, if you want to create your own list with June 1st information then feel free. You're not posting in this thread because of football or anything else except a desire to create conflict and shit up my thread because you get jealous any time someone besides you posts something worthwhile. Your constant passive-aggressive behavior is really more like a chick than a dude.

This is the type of productive discussion that was happening four pages ago before magnus got catty and had to take a crap all over this thread:

Lets make this easy, for me at least. Am I right in my understanding if player A signs a 5 year deal worth 50 million dollars including a signing bonus of 25 million. The 25 million SIGNING bonus is spread over the life of the deal hence 5 mil per year. If he gets cut or traded after year 2 the remaining 15 mil is due then. If there were any roster/workout bonus's mixed in the deal the player doesn't get them so long as he isn't on the roster at that time (usually March 1st)

What is the significance of June cuts? Is that like the March cuts as far as roster bonus's? Or does the June period basically start the new calender year for football teams so so long as they are on the "official" roster they count towards the upcoming year.

I think in the new CBA you can only spread out a signing bonus over five years (so a six or seven year contract would be treated like five years for salary cap purposes), but yeah, it's divided equally among those five years. Trading or cutting that player accelerates the remaining amount to count against the cap. Then you have option bonuses, which as with Thomas Davis are put into later years of the contract and are treated like signing bonuses from that point on. So TD's option bonus didn't count against the cap in the first year of his contract, but would have once it activated if he hadn't waived it. Roster / workout bonuses do not count against the cap until activated for that particular season, so any future ones are irrelevant if you cut the player.

And June 1st cuts are basically just a way to spread out the cap hit that comes from cutting a big contract. Instead of having the full amount count against the following year's cap, you can designate a certain number of players to have their cap hit split between that season and the one after it. It's rather confusing, which is why I intentionally left it out, plus it tends to trick fans into thinking that a player is cheaper to cut than they actually are. Even though the team will probably designate some June 1st cuts, I prefer to think in terms of the total dead cap amount.

the idea that a cap hit is in one year versus two isn't relevant? You can't possibly be serious.
