Plenty of conjecture when a team's 1-5, and the offense is not meeting expectations.

I think I have a pretty good handle on the "why" (Schedule has presented tougher pass rushed/overall pass defense thus far, as opposed to the sieves Newton lit it up against a year ago.)

When they didn't retain Shockey, I wasn't surprised, but was hoping to see him back after camp. When they signed Tolbert, I was excited to see a pure lead blocker at FB, with the occasional wrinkle in the passing game.

But Chud doesn't much need a FB. What he needed, he didn't get. What he didn't need, he got a lot of.

For all the venom spewing this month over Chud's sudden inability to call good plays, he is who he is, and for the now departed Hurney to not continue to mold the passing game with key additions at WR, OG, TE - he pays (overpays) for too many players that not only are not contributing relative to their salary, but are a misfit for the system.

A vertical passing attack needs 2 big playmakers (I feel Smith and LaFell are a great combo there), and 2-3 additional vertical threats. Pilares -- his only TD was on a smoke screen. Murphy is not consistent, never has been.

This is what happens when you have 80 million tied up in three very good RB who offer minimal contributions.

And, yea, the Packers won the Super Bowl with James Starks at RB down the stretch.

I do think it's a mistake to assume Rivera won't be given another year. I'm not in love with him by any stretch, but I also recognize that he's had us fairly competitive despite Hurney's nonsense.

    Um... how so?

The only part of the team that's shown anything is the offense... and that's nothing to do with Rivera

I'm fine with Rivera getting fired too, if they want to go that route. The reality, though, is that we've only seen this guy for 22 games and he inherited a 2-14 roster. A new GM might consider that.
