Panthers | Ron Rivera on the hot seat

Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera will surely be on the hot seat after the firing of general manager Marty Hurney Monday, Oct. 22. A new general manager will surely want to bring in his own head coach. Former head coach Bill Cowher is reportedly a name that could surface in Carolina.

You've just detailed a mediocre head coach who has a stigma of overworking his players to the point of injury, and being a snitch who not many want to work with.

I don't get what you see in him, but it's cool either way. I'm not worried about it because it has as much chance of happening as JR apologizing and rehiring Hurney who then hires George Seifert again.

Coughlin won games. That's the huge difference. And he was not a snitch.

And as regimented as he was, players complained largely about his rules on punctuality, hats and bubblegum. I can't remember stories of players becoming injured because of ridiculously rigid practices.

May still come from others., would be interesting.

Yas thinks Koncz is the guy. Feels unlikely.

Del Rio would be a better and smarter retread than Mangini, and I wouldn't want that, either. Not Norv, either. There are no palatable retreads in my opinion.

Picking an interim wouldn't have any effect on that.

    Yes, in Jacksonville.

He's the only guy that ever won there. And the former owner lamented not keeping him, said it was the worst mistake he ever made, was getting rid of him.

Why? Del Rio had three winning seasons out of nine compared to Mangini's two out of five, plus JDR had Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor. I admit that I'm basing this off of watching him on ESPN, but Mangini seems like he's matured. There's no question that he's an intelligent coach.
