No no no... make no mistake. I think Hurney should be gone period. I don't think that has anything to do with my thoughts of Rivera. I'm saying he HAS played a part in personnel decisions.

Ok how about this. We have a 3-13 or 4-12 season and jR finally says fuck it and fires Hurney, the next gm will want to bring in "his guy".

The right thing to do is fire Hurney, but we should have done that before hiring Rivera. Now you almost have no choice but to give him at least another year.

Sure, if Hurney goes then Rivera goes with him, but I simply do not see that happening. To get fired before next season, Rivera would need something shocking like when Kevin Greene choked Kevin Steele and Capers did virtually nothing about it. Plus who knows? Maybe Rivera will get this train rolling and make us all look like idiots.

That's about where I'm at with this situation also.

I can see Rivera gone mid season, Chud in as interm HC

I would feel different if the offense sucked and the defense was playing better, but Rivera's supposed to be the defensive guy, #1 ranked defense in San Diego, that's why he's here... Any defense previous to Rivera would be enough to win more games opposite the talent we have on offense.

Draft input, probably plenty. Upgrading the defense in FA? Hurney limited him to the dollar menu.

We had a mountain of cap space after 2010, and Hurney flushed it all down the shitter to retain a 2-14 team. That's why you're seeing rookies and career special teamers starting for us.

It is worth reiterating that Carolina had the second most cap space in the league behind Tampa Bay. Now the Panthers have least cap space of any team in the NFL for the next couple of seasons.
