How many years did they resign Davis for? If we can get Davis to stay healthy enough to get through the year it might be prudent to letting him go with Kuechly, Beason and Anderson. Assuming Beason stays healthy

Wrong side of the formation, although he'll probably cover them in nickel / dime.

TD is signed for three more years, but will probably be cut after this one (which causes a $4.2 million cap hit - #fuckhurney). Anderson is also under contract through 2015, which I liked before Kuechly was drafted but now looks questionable enough that he might be on the bubble after 2013. Atlanta and Tampa Bay will probably still be conventional opponents, but against a team like New Orleans you'll have only one or two linebackers on the field for most defensive snaps. Kuechly and Beason have the versatility to be valuable in those situations, and Luke will be the best coverage linebacker the team has ever had, but selecting him should mean changing the roster construction yet again since you don't need so much invested in additional linebackers. That kind of sucks because James Anderson is a good player.

But we probably agree that his most important role could be stopping the gang raping of the Panthers D by the opposing TE's since the team was formed.

That is fine that he would pick them up in nickel / dime because that is where it tends to fall apart on 3rd and long - some TE is wide open for a 14 yd gain when they needed 13.

How else could they switch things up to get him matched up on the TE when he's playing the weak side?

it wouldn't be that hard to simply move him over in nickel, honestly. Or just move him around in general.

FO has him as second best percentage wise in plays* per snap (min 200 snaps)

*tackles, assists, passes defensed, and turnovers.

I'd love to give Hurney credit, but he was never going to be a full time MLB with Beason in the lineup, so we sort of fell ass-backwards into this one. I'm sure glad we did though.

Not that unusual. He didn't deserve DROY either.
