Seriously? This comment is indefensible. Everyone who likes the Panthers must have a huge problem with what Hurney did there. The 43rd and 109th overall in 2008 as well as the 2009 1st rounder for a guy who was never an impact player. That's a huge price to pay for anyone, and a thing that good teams don't do to begin with, but the fact that he played only 29 games over four years before being traded for a conditional 7th round pick seals it as inexcusably awful. Throw in that trading for Otah motivated Hurney to trade another future first for Everette Brown (since he couldn't select him with the 1st traded for Otah), and it gets even worse.

I still think they should have drafted a right tackle with their existing first round pick and not drafted Stewart. Granted Stewart is a good player but we did not need a back up running back with our first round pick.

Hard to argue that Otah was not worth the pick that was spent on him. His talent level was equal to where he was chosen, you never know when a guy is going to get injured and stay that way.

Yeah me too, I wanted OT first that year and RB later on, I believe I was thinking third round.

Was really pissed at Hurney, and yes that was the move that put us in the trade next year's first mode.

Plus it's brutal to realize that Matt Forte, Ray Rice, and Jamaal Charles were all chosen after what would have been the Panthers' second round pick in that draft.

We knew there would be good ones on the board. We already had DW. Fucking Hurney. That is when I started disliking him.

Very much agreed. You can't anticipate one particular player being available at your next pick, but you can certainly know that a position is deep and that some of those players will be around. Why they felt they had to take Stewart when DW averaged 5 yards per carry the previous season is beyond me.

I have always been a fan of Fox and I still am to a large degree but he screwed that one up. He stuck with Foster way too long. If he had made DW the feature back one year earlier he would have proven himself capable and eliminated any desire to draft a running back in round one.

As you said earlier we could have drafted Otah in the first round and grabbed Forte in the second and not given up a first round pick the following year. That whole deal was the starting point for our descent to 2-14.

I agree that he stuck with Foster too long over DW, just as he stuck with Stephen Davis too long over Foster, but Williams already proved himself in 2007 with 717 yards on 144 carries. Taking Stewart was a luxury pick.

It's unfortunate that the team goes through these losses, from time to time. Some would argue it's on an epidemic scale. I think we see it as such because it's the team in our area.

But, yes, it's fair to say that Hurney shits his pants often.

I don't see this as simply "we got Louis Murphy for Jeff Otah".....We invested a good bit in Otah on draft day. That said, completely different system now, and I never saw Otah as a strength at RT for a spread attack.

    No cussing.
