Lol Jason Kidd popped for DUI last night . Might need to match the Lin offer sheet so they can keep two pgs who are sober

Lins offer sheet has a third year 13.9 mil balloon payment. I thought it was 3 year deal for 30 mil which you'd assume being 10 per, is it 8 per and 13.9 mil thank you check making him receive 21 mil player * rotflmao*

it's actually even more skewed than that. the "gilbert arenas rule" prevents another team from offering more than the league average to a player who is restricted and been in the league two years or less. except that only covers the first two years of a contract for some reason, so the rockets can offer 5 mil for the first two years only, but then apparently whatever the hell they want in the third year. in this case, it's 5+5+14.8 (2nd year is a bit more than 5).

they did the same thing with asik. it makes matching those offers a seriously poison pill for the team with bird rights -- particularly given the lux tax implications for a team over the lux cap. in that regard, i suppose you can say it's working as intended.

it seems like these kinds of contracts may backfire on everybody, tho. the idea of "testing the market" by signing an offer sheet with another team could end up forcing a player to move instead of just being a negotiating tactic. if lin wanted to stay in ny, he fucked up.

I thought I read almost 30 mil, and yeah had Lin read and understood the contract he should have known signing that offer sheet was the same thing as signing his exit paperwork from the knicks

Lin would be better off in Houston not dealing with Carmelo. I also read that when teams match someone else's offer for a restricted free agent, they don't actually match the individual terms but instead an average of the total value. So supposedly the Knicks would have to pay $10 million each season instead of Houston's 5-5-15, which hurts New York more. Not sure of the reasoning behind that.

i think that was the original 4 year contract that was being floated around that wasn't officially signed. i believe the official offer sheet lin signed was a 3 year deal worth just around $25 mil.

ny should try to work out a sign-and-trade with him. not sure if they could still do it with houston since there's an offer sheet that's been signed, but i'm sure there's a team that would like to have him for $25 mil over 3 years. maybe golden state? they might be interested in him. fills a need, rebuilding team that needs some excitement, local asian population... makes sense to me. not sure what they could offer in return...

Collison is actually a good fit for them. I'd rather pay him or Felton on the cheap than give a bunch of money to a guy who might or might not be a little better. Still can't believe Sessions ended up here.
