Of course they're keeping him. If he really wanted to leave New Orleans he should have played out next season on the qualifying offer and been unrestricted. NO matching the $58 million from Phoenix is a no-brainer.

Maybe the Russian owner and his reported Russian mod ties can "convince" Johnson to tear up old contract and make it for for less ;).

With a legit big man and Derron Williams abilities Johnson ought to be in for a great year, catching and popping shots

Steve Nash to the Lakers via sign and trade. Great move by the Lakers, cost them 2 first an 2 seconds I imagine are spread out but the lakers have needed a strong point for a while

Bobcats talking to Houston guard Goran Dravic. Why?

that was a different group running things tho, no? i mean, the nba front office was kind of driving that trade deal whereas there's a new ownership group in place now who might have a different thought on how to proceed.

there are cap holds that prevent signing new free agents and then re-signing your own free agents. well, they don't prevent it exactly, they just block out some amount of money based on the previous contract. you'd have to renounce a player to get rid of the hold (or re-sign them to lock in the actual amount).

but it doesn't matter, because getting howard would happen as a trade. they'd re-sign a bunch of their players who are not under contract anymore and then trade them to orlando for howard. those guys would probably all get major raises so they'd likely be game rather than saying no way (you can't trade a free agent after signing him for like 90(?) days unless he says okay).

so yeah, it all works by the nets going over the cap with their own free agents, but it's not a timing game.

Never mind, he was probably using the Bobcats to get a better deal. Signed with Phoenix

Because they know neither Augustin or Walker are legitimate starters? Dragic is actually pretty good.
