Marty had better start planning to pay him $20+ million per season because that's what it will take. *sigh*

Yup. We will have the "honor" of having the highest paid player in the history of the NFL . . . IF we can afford him both financially and to the detriment of being able to sign or keep any other elite players.

I dont know...depends on how he stacks up to Brees, Rodgers, and maybe Brady at that point. Teams with elite QBs seem to be surviving just fine. If Cam ever becomes elite it will be a better problem to have than watching Clausen look like a skinny kid on his first day of prison. Id rather give him 20 mil than Julius"the tin man"Peppers.

If Cam has a couple more awesome seasons he will earn that kind of money. I am glad we do not have to pay him after just one awesome season.

So i guess youre forgetting the fact the Panthers had to decide whether or not to pay Pep 20 mil to franchise him.

Only because they had already used the franchise tag on him before, and it would have forced another 20% increase in salary. He only cost the Bears $15 million a season, and even that's assuming he plays out the full contract. Quarterbacks are the only position that currently costs anywhere near $20 million annually, and unfortunately there are several who do, so it's reasonable to expect Cam to seek that kind of money.

I'm going to wait and see if he can dodge a sophomore slump before I worry about 2014+. Cam better be doing his homework this offseason. The defensive coordinators he'll be facing this year are surely doing their's.

Rookie cap is in place, overall cap should rise. 20 to Cam in 2015 will be similar to 15 to Pep the last several years. If he is successful 2012-2014 he'll probably get more than 20.
