yeah, that kinda sums up diaw:

"I like a player who is really committed to not only the team but to himself and then doing the best he can as a player," Silas said. "Some of the things that would go on, like not shooting the ball, passing all of the time, that doesn't help us.
"I needed hoops and he could put the ball in the hoop. When that wouldn't happen, it was very disturbing."
Silas later added: "I think if he had played all out, the way he should have, it would have been a much, much better club."

The Bobcats take another one to the grill at home. The Timberwolves have a so-so record, but they are a fun team to watch. Kevin Love has to be the best player you never hear much about.
He took 31 shots, but there appears to be nothing he can`t do when he wants to.
The Bobcats are now 7-41 on the season.
    Well isn`t that special?

A 27 point loss to the so-so Hawks.
Will the top ping pong ball make that much difference?
    Well, yeah.

The team with the worst record in the NBA rarely wins the #1 overall pick.

    I guess a 25% chance is better than 0%.

Who does the NBA want to have it this year?

and even if they do get the #1 pick -- the rest of the team still sucks and it takes years to become competitive.

tim duncan is kind of an exception to this, but the only reason the spurs sucked the year before he was drafted is cuz david robinson sat out most of the year with an injury. the spurs team sans duncan was actually a playoff caliber team under normal circumstances.

people praise the okc model, but aside from that model killing a franchise, it also could have completely exploded if durant had decided to become a free agent.

relying on pingpong balls and the whims of players to make your franchise successful is dicey, imo. my philosophy is to always try to win with what you have and improve the team when you can. if you luck out with a high pick or a talent that falls in the draft, then you've hopefully got everything else in place to take advantage.

The NBA is a superstar driven league. You have to get a top 5 pick, hope it turns out well, and pray that the guy stays long-term. Filling your roster with good but not great players gets you nowhere.
