They need to stop having "a plan" and just take each year as it comes..

Yeah that was tough to watch. I love TD but that was a real dumb move by Hurney. I 100% believe he gave TD the deal on JR's instructions but I do not believe JR told him how much to pay him, just to take care of him.

    Same with DW.

They need to stop extending nice guys to massive contracts way too early.

Need a little more hardball and finesse in the front office, someone capable of making a tough decision and realising just because we dont pay our own guy 40 plus mill that we cant replace him with someone else from a team with an actual winning record.

But last year Davis was the really only insane deal depending on how you feel about CJ

Signing our own is all well and good but weve got to hit on more draftees if thats the way they want to do it, not making assinine decisions like trading away future top picks for special teamers and DE tweeners.

Its kinda scary to think how bad this team could look right now with no salary cap dump and if someone had accepted Martys offer to trade up for Clausen.

No Newton, CJ, Beason, Kalil or Delo most likely.

    You're forgetting DW's huge payday.

I was kinda torn on that one, wanted him to stay but realised RB is a little easier to find in FA, plus we had Stewart and Goodson.

Goodson ended up a non factor and Newton ended up taking carries from both Williams and Stewart.

They need to change the planner. JR is obviously a strong-willed individual who likes to deal with a small circle of confidants who he trusts, even if they're incompetent. It's only a matter of luck that the Panthers aren't utterly destroyed as a franchise due to the litany of mistakes that have been made. Giving extensions to TD & Delhomme, spending high picks on Everette Brown & Otah & Edwards, letting Peppers walk for nothing, etc. Thank goodness Cam Newton & Rob Chudzinski ended up working out or the team would be in ruins. It frustrates me precisely because none of this had to happen. There was so much potential for the Panthers to not only be good but great. All it would have taken is a general manager who isn't an idiot.

Not even close. Reportedly the Panthers gave Johnson more than twice as much as Atlanta was offering him (and they were the second highest bidder at the time although who knows what team might have jumped in later), DeAngelo got an absurd amount of money for a 28 year old running back when the team already had Stewart, and don't forget that Godfrey received $27.5 million before having one of the worst seasons of any starting safety in the NFL. The Beason, Kalil, and CJ deals are defensible but all still clearly featured overpayment by market standards. What's the point of always re-signing your own guys if it's not at any sort of discount. If you're going to overpay anyway, then who cares if they're homegrown or signed from somewhere else?

I was just thinking about going into last year weak at CB and not signing anyone, and Munnerlyn's escalators that just kicked in.

I didn't know about Munnerlyn's escalators but the team did. We could have signed a guy to start opposite Gamble, not had Munnerlyn hit those escalators just to sit on the bench this year (I hope). And had that dough go towards the contract of whoever we'd have brought in to start.

Just a little thing, relatively, but still, it would have been smarter than what we did.

Better the Devil you know scenario:fu5:

Its a tough deal trying to figure out whats market value with these ever increasing contracts, what looks crazy today will look like an average deal in a year or two.

I know id rather have Delo for 40 mill than Eric Weddle. I believe in putting money in positions that create points.

    But yeah
