One benefit of this trade to the Panthers is that it increases the liklihood that Trent Richardson goes in the top 8, which means maybe a Coples or Reiff is there at 9.

Hurney took 10 years to make enough cumulative mistakes to make comparing him with Capers' 2 years even debatable. Whether Hurney's two worst drafts (2009, 2010) are appreciably worse than Caper's drafts (97,98) is debatable. And if you take your blinders off and throw in a comparison of their good drafts, it's no contest, because Capers had none. But again, you don't even need to factor in the drafts to settle on who is the worst GM in Panthers history. The Gilbert trade alone, one of the all time worst moves in league history, clinches it.

Dude, let it go. No one agrees with you. You said something ridiculous about Hurney not being the worst GM in Panthers history when he obviously is, and everything since then has been you trying to make excuses for that instead of doing the smart thing and shutting the fuck up.

Yes, Capers made a blunder with the Gilbert thing, although JR was supposedly the one who pushed for that anyway. Capers himself said later that he had misgivings about making that deal but felt pressured to do it: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?id=1650991 But again, that's one huge fuckup against a laundry list of huge fuckups by Hurney. Marty tried to trade what became the #1 overall pick to move up for Jimmy Clausen. It's only because he couldn't get someone to accept the deal that the franchise isn't in complete ruins. The fact that you're even arguing this is a measure of extreme and stubborn ignorance. It's absurd. Hurney has screwed up so many things both through the draft and in contracts that even trying to compare Capers to him is ludicrous.

Ignore this, Mills51. If you look closely enough, you'll find that Ted Striker has a tramp stamp with Collin's name on his back right above his ass. It's one of those fancy deals, where if you look at it, it says Striker, but upside down it says Collin.

I tend to remember that the organization felt we were a run-stopping DT away from greatness and we overpaid tremendously to get that piece. In reality, we were an overachieving expansion team.

Yeah, I don't remember anyone being happy about the Gilbert trade from the time it happened. It was dumb and desperate, no question.

I'm pretty sure it's the only time a team has ever paid the franchise tag compensation of two 1st round picks. The only negotiating that happened was with Gilbert on how much we'd have to pay him. The Redskins just sat back because they knew Carolina was stupid enough to give up the picks. Ironically, a couple years later Capers ended up working for the man that took him to the woodshed on the deal, Charley Casserly in Houston.

And then even more Ironically Dan Snyder bought the Deadskins and has proceeded and give away draft picks like candy.

And yet it pales in comparison to the cumulative damage that Hurney has done, which is what people keep trying to tell you.
