lol... sadly enough yeah. If you can get it to boot to a USB floppy you can run the bios exe from there.

I think your only other option is a new battery. Do you know anyone else that has the same laptop? See if you can borrow their battery long enough to update.

I was thinking of the larger floppies that one could bend. I think you are talking about the more sturdy smaller floppy disks, right?

Don't know anyone with the exact same laptop but I imagine someone around here has a Dell. I'm guessing that battery maybe compatible. Yeah, easiest thing to do is just buy a new damn battery from Dell. BTW, thanks for all the suggestions.

Well, I went in to Device Manager and deleted "Microsoft ACPI - Compliant Control Method Battery" and the battery started to charge. I think there's also a connection issue where the AC plug actually plugs into the laptop. It's working now so I'll take it.

Honestly, the best option is to buy a new battery from Dell. No aftermarket crap.

You'll probably see it start to die again. If the battery isn't charging, 99% of the time it means the battery is bad. I've seen it enough times.

    Anyway, that's my fiddy cent.

When laptop users leave their laptop acclimation axial the accoutrement but leave the computer acquainted into the wall, the laptop acclimation is traveling through a affiliated charge-discharge cycle. The album acclimation is sitting baldheaded axial the notebook, absolution a little faster than acclimatized because of the notebook's heat.

Dell's tend to have that problem. It is electronics in most cases. The signal pin (center) of DC plug either has no voltage or incorrect voltage. This reports to the MAX8734 [Quad power output IC] then the BIOS knows that it is a chinese knockoff somewhere, either the power supply or the Battery. If the Power Supply is a Dell and putting out 4.74a that is the correct one. Then that points to the battery circuit in the laptop being defective.

It can be bypassed and charge the battery.

What causes no battery or [X] in the power on task bar in Windows:

    Dead battery/Wrong
They come in different mA/H ratings yours should be 53mA/H

    Wrong/Bad Power Supply
Many variations on them (OEM DELL has a white tip)

Electronic bads or bad coil on front end
    Parts blow sometimes.

If it is a Asus , you have to send it to them to be repaired

The OP stated that is was a Dell.

See previous info regarding why it will not charge.
In Dell's it is typically the DC Jack, but since the model wasn't mentioned, I cannot provide info that would possibly direct you to the exact problem. I have repaired over 300 of various Dells. See me a Zarato computers in Charlotte, or blog.
