Mel Tucker had a relationship with Chud in Cleveland, too.

Chargers owner is currently deciding the fates of both AJ Smith and Norv Turner, so if Smith gets canned as well, there's likely to be a change in philosophy of some sort, decreasing the chances they'd want Chud to come back and continue more of the same. Speaking of, the only way I would feel OK with Chud leaving would be if Norv somehow decided to take Chud's old job here, just saying.

I just do not see it happening this soon.
First year as offensive coordinator (?)
He has a great spot to develop his talent
    Great Quaterback.
Set uo for near term success.

If I were him I would wait and build ny resume and the hype.

That makes no sense. There are only 32 head coaching jobs and only a handful available each season. If you get offered one, you take it.

Most coaches know to strike while the iron is hot. If he gets an offer to be a head coach, he will most certainly take it. Thinking he will turn it down to stay a coordinator is wishful thinking.

Perhaps he doesnt get the offer because the team(s) he interviews with do not think he is ready. That is why he would stay.

Chud has declined to interview before, FWIW.

He's a hot commodity right now.
Second year. He was the Cleveland OC a few years back.
So being a head coach and PICKING the talent is a worse option?
Newton may see a sophomore slump next year. its not uncommon. So it wouhurt hus chances of a HC job after this year.
That would be a HUGE mistake. If he's offered the top job and turns it down (Unless its a bad situation) then he's a fool. His goal is to run a team of his own one day. No one goes in to a job to be second in command.

yeah he actually had 2 years in Cleveland. I'm sure part of his slide happened with SOS and injury but it's not that he deserved firing specifically, it's that he signed onto the back end of a staff that was running out of tenure and good will.

As for Gabbert, I'd hate to have to be responsible for that mess, and the trade only underlines the required value and expectation. But, in the shorter term, he could correctly proclaim Gabbert not ready, start someone like Anderson, and draft

Chud's biggest obstacle, outside of having no interview experience, is that his circle is somewhat small being a younger guy. He's worked for two teams plus one year here with guys who won't be able to leave (and SD isn't leaving either). So, outside of saying he thinks he could get Bruce Davis as DC (for an example), he can't call on outside coaches that he thinks he can land as coordinators.

Packaging yourself to that level makes a difference. Rivera coming in and saying this is what I want to run and here's who I can go get to do it, probably made a difference. To me it's critical to be able to say you can go get a bunch of staff quickly, with near certainty, and that's something Chud can't do right now, outside of UM connections like Dorsey (who's been here apparently). Mularkey, for instance, could quickly put together a staff because of his connections.
