No Howard for at least a month isn't a good start. Next off season will be interesting. Victorino and Hamels are free agents. I understand the Phillies are trying to get younger to A. have a cheaper payroll due to Lee, Halliday and Howard all making 20 mil or better but resigning Hamels and Victorino is paramount. As much as Utley is my favorite Phillie this is a pivotal year for him. He has been hurt the last 2 years and needs to snap back. I'd like to see Blanton traded for a couple of youngsters

Yeah, Blanton sucks. I don't know why they didn't bring back Oswalt, though. Worley had a pretty good season but he was never a strikeout pitcher in the minors so who knows if that continues. Then Kendrick is just not a good pitcher; he was pretty lucky in 2011. I did like Cosart a lot, but the Phillies do have other prospects and I think Pence was probably worth it. I also really doubt that Hamels is going anywhere.

I wouldn't say Blanton sucks, rather he is an average pitcher who typically is an innings eater. Nowadays it seems pitchers will give you 5 innings and then look for the bullpen. Blanton is an unspectacular 6-7 innings a start guy. Worley will probably be the same kind of guy with proper tutelage from Lee and Halladay

The Phillies kept Blanton as he still has one year left on his contract. Tried to trade him but didn't have any luck. If you can get 5 or 6 innings out of him that would a blessing. As much as I like Oswalt as well, having to pay him $15M + for this year would have been crazy. IMO he still has some good years left in his arm, it probably just won't be with the Phillies.

Only if we can get them to take on some salary either in Wrights, or Blanton. Not just prospects

Don't be ridiculous. You want them to give David Wright and take on more salary? Good lord.

IMO I can't see the Mets taking on any more salary with the financial troubles they have. According to what I read in Philly local papers, Polanco's salary would have to go before anything like making a deal for Wright. Not sure who would be interested in Polanco with the health issues he has had the last couple of years. If something can be done, Amaro seems to be the guy who can make it happen. Stay tuned!
