no one's ever hired, to my knowledge, an outside coach during a season. You get a day's jump on things at the most, and you still have to deal with the interim guy. There's really no benefit in my mind.

Talking heads come up with shit just to talk sometimes.

I'd guess, in no particular order:

if the players have tuned out the coach and you need to see if they'll play better for someone else,

if you think the team might win a couple for him and you'd rather not to get a better draft slot,

if the coach is thumbing his nose at the owner, knowing he's out the door anyhow,

if you want to allow the coach to get a jump on employment elsewhere like a college gig,

stuff like that, getting the coach out asap is appropriate action.

I think it makes the owner and GM look like an asshole. I mean, what message does that say about an organization that fires a coach with 3 games left? It's not professional. I think a coach would be less likely to go to an organization that did that previously, imho.

I think there aren't many good coaches available, and they want a jump on the good ones. But with Miami especially, I don't see how a quality guy like Cowher or Gruden considers them after the way they handled Sparano/Harbaugh last offseason.

Not sure if Raheem should last to the end of the year, but there's also this Spagnuolo thing out there. Bradford will be going into year 3. McDaniels hasn't done anything there to help, and the defense isn't that good (despite solid pass #s). I don't know if things will get better there.

I guess mercifully they're not going to drop Caldwell right now, but shouldn't they at the end of the year? No Manning, sure. The rest of it is a huge mess.

What about Frazier? Maybe you don't pull the plug one year in, but they're so bad.

I wonder if Miami is enough to get Cowher out of retirement

What are the odds that Richardson finally fires Hurney after this season?

Poor. After next season he may fire both.

fairly low. But I'm starting to assemble with the angry mob on occasion. The moves that JR doesn't have his hands on, are looking to be some of the shittier moves.
