Stern only has power over New Orleans since the NBA owns the team. Frankly if Howard got traded to New Jersey then they'd be fine with Paul going to L.A. The concern was that the Lakers getting Paul without giving up Bynum would allow them to then trade for Howard and win the next 5-6 NBA championships.

The way it is now, I think you could make a pretty good argument that it's a big city game. Contracting out the filler teams would just make it offical.

For all that was crazy and wrong about the letter Dan Gilbert sent to David Stern about the trade, he was right about one thing. The league is turning into 5 Harlem Globetrotters and 25 Washington Generals teams.

What will happen to all the contracts if the league contracts? Will the players wind up just blowing in the wind? They should have tried to perfect the deal before they signed, but no one is perfect. Perhaps the owners should have thought to contest the deal before agreeing to the upcoming Christmas contest. I guess they just blew off the minute details when it came down to the last minute.

is it really? the nba certainly has "dynasties" but it's pretty rare or those dynasties to span multiple generations.

so which 5 teams are the harlem globetrotters? will it be the same 5 teams next year? last year's top teams were certainly not the same top teams from the previous year.

NBA veto's another trade involving Chris Paul. I can see the litigation wheels starting to roll.

you mean the clippers deal? i don't think the nba vetoed it, i think the clips just haven't decided the deal makes sense for them... honestly, they'd be giving up a ton for paul....

Yep, The league operated Hornets were asking for ANOTHER 1st, not just the one from the T-Wolves. Clips just said fuck it and backed off. This per ESPN earlier today. Now they are reporting the league is pushing for it again. Be curious how the parameters change. Eric Gordon wasn't part of the trade before
