If Div 2 can do playoffs and the kids still keep up with their studies, etc then why can't the big boys? The answer is easy. Someone has done the calculation and the bowl series will provide more $$$$$$$$ than a playoff. In the end, like most things, it all comes down to money. They whole "fans won't travel to multiple games" and "the athletes would miss to much class" are convenient excuses, but merely that, excuses, at least IMHO.

The problem with the current BCS format is the possibility of multiple unbeaten teams at years end. It didn't happen this season, but it could have,

Contrary to what you were told in the fourth grade, not all opinions are valid and they can be proven wrong. You already know that, otherwise you'd be buying those ion-wristband things to keep you healthy since in Fuzzy Zoeller's opinion "it really works!"

I'm the absolute last person you can say this too. Look, stop embarrassing yourself by acting like a weeping vagina and grow a thicker skin.

It's not surprising that your tiny brain can't comprehend this, but I'll explain it yet again for you. Anyone who made it past high school math should already know that the bigger a sample is, the more accurate it becomes. The college football regular season is 12+ games and therefore gives the most compelling evidence as to which teams are "the best." Meanwhile in any one game there is always the potential for an upset, even if it's just 10 or 20%, thus one single game doesn't definitively prove anything. The BCS has a national championship game because the top two teams usually haven't played each other, but in this particular season LSU has already beaten all the top contenders except Oklahoma State. They've already proven that they were the best team this season, and therefore they deserve to be recognized as co-champion at absolute minimum, regardless of what happens the rest of the way.

Actually, it's been known for years that a playoff would produce significantly more money than the bowl system. Various outlets like SI have done studies estimating how much more, and it's usually in the tens of millions. The university presidents are turning down extra money because they believe a playoff would be a bad idea, and they're correct.

It did happen, but people rightly ignore Houston because they didn't play anyone. The fact that everyone does ignore the Cougars proves my point about being able to make subjective judgments regarding team quality. You already know that and do it without even thinking about it, but then you pretend like it can't or shouldn't be done for the BCS.

    One scenario left----

What will the polls look like Sunday night if Oklahoma State convincingly beats Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game? Alabama is idle.

I think Stewart Mandel covered it pretty well. If OSU beats Oklahoma then they should play LSU, but the SEC's dominance and the BigXII's failures in the national title game have voters leaning against it.

I'm fine with osu playing lsu if they beat okl. even though every single person that follows college football knows lsu and alabama are the two best teams by a landslide. I'm going to empty my betting account on lsu.

a +1 solves this ...or least helps. No 8 team playoff crap. That will take away from the regular season meaning something.

The argument that "one-game doesn't prove anything because upsets happen" also then should be applied to the regular season. Ok. St. was beaten in an upset and now faces missing the title game. Boise St. was upset, Va. Tech was at home and favored to beat Clemson. These were all just "one game" that virtually finished off their hopes of playing for the championship.

One things for sure: If Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma, there will be some nervous Bama fans watching that BCS show on Sunday night.

Which is why the body of work during the regular season matters so much.
