In part, because they never get to fucking practice. Most of the live reps for KO return happen in-game. Teams develop their coverage units in preseason games. The past few years, they've just hired a guy to kick it into the stands.

But which is more important: having one more roster spot or having a guy who reliably makes field goals?

I think you can have both. And I think that was their plan when they made the move. Mare certainly hasn't worked out, but that was not my point. If we had a punter who could kick off (like they do in NOLA), then keeping Kasay is a no brainer.

You're ignoring the fact that we already knew Mare was a shitty field goal kicker.

You're ignoring the fact that Mare was never my point. People think that Kasay could handle all the place kicking duties and i was pointing out that he can't do that anymore.

No, I don't think anyone was saying that Kasay would magically become good on kickoffs. We all know his limitations there, but it seems more important to have a guy who is good at field goals than it is to have a guy who is good at kickoffs. For that matter, I wonder why Baker couldn't handle it. He has a strong leg, and while he wasn't getting a lot of touchbacks back when they tried him, the extra five yards might have made it palatable.

I haven't seen, who does the kickoffs in New Orleans?

I don't think that anyone thought he would be magically good either. But it has been suggested on many occasions that the extra five yards would be enough for him...except it's not. That is all I have been saying. I would be all for trying Baker there, but apparently he just isn't good enough for whatever reason. But hell, i would be all for running his ass out of town too.

If you had good KO coverage, you'd think with the extra 5 yards, you'd actually have great FP with not having TBs. But our coverage units suck anyways, so the point is mute.
