He kicked another game winner in OT for the Saints while Mare kept missing easy ones. I think we can officially call the decision to dump him for Mare a huge blunder.

A blunder in several ways. Dumping the last original panther that has been nothing but good for the organization. Kasay almost always make a FG from 50 yards and in. I think with the new kickoff rules we would have been just fine with him and saved some money. I still don't understand Hurney's logic in that move.

Someone Email the beat writers and ask them if they still back Hurney, then post the responses here.

Not defending Hurney at all, but I'm pretty sure it's on the record by Rivera's own statement that he was the one who wanted to cut Kasay.

The logic is simple, it just backfired. I hindsight dealing with Kasay's extra roster spot or his short-ish kick-offs in exchange for a realible FG kicker would have been the way to go.

Especially kicking off from the 35, and with all the new rules that prohibit wedging by the return team. Kick it off and go cover.

Have you watched our cover team this year? Kasay would be dropping the ball at the goalline and they would be returning it to the 35 or 40 consistently. Keep in mind that Kasay is NOT kicking off in New Orleans and is also kicking indoors on turf for 10 of 16 games.

I am ok with moving on from Kasay. It sucks that the last original Panther is gone and it sucks the way it went down. But if he were still here, we would still need a KO specialist.
