not the best week to ask it really. I'm as low on Gross as I have been in a bit.

He's been solid up to now, I guess. Are there any good tackles in the NFL anymore?

Seems like most are good in only 1 area.

What? Fuck no. Gross has always been hysterically overrated. At the time of his season-ending injury in 2009 he was tied for the league lead in sacks allowed. I've been biased against the guy since I heard him on a Sirius interview many years ago talking about how much he hated to lift weights. The reality is that he's still an above average pass protector, but nowhere close to elite, and he's arguably been below average as a run blocker for a while now. Throw in the increasing number of penalties and he's conjuring frightening memories of Todd Steussie.

Good question. I think we got spoiled by the Ogden / Pace / WJones era. Joe Thomas & Jake Long are the names that come to mind now, but I have no idea how they're performing this season since I haven't watched either team.

Gross seems to have a pie-to-the-face moment every week. So does Peter King. Maybe that's why Peter likes him so much.

Peter admires his restraint in keeping it to one pie a week.

Ungh...Gross is one of the better tackles in the league.

    Really?

    No really, he is.

(this is exhausting) Why do we do this?

Jordan Gross is not the best LT in the NFL, no. But he's damn good. I for one, am very happy he's a Carolina Panther. He's one of the better in the league.

This wasn't his best week, no. But Allen has abused many before, and we didn't help Gross much with him. We left them singled up quite a bit. To have a player you trust to do that, is a luxury.

Teams will very rarely give their left tackles any help, so I think it's a basic expectation rather than a luxury. Allen is one of the best pass rushers in the league, but my frustration with Gross is that he doesn't ever look "great" against anyone. Who is the last defensive end you thought he manhandled? He's just not that guy. Panthers fans are satisfied if Gross just doesn't screw up, we don't even expect him to do anything positive. That's not what you expect from someone who is actually one of the best. He's just above average.
