good points. It does matter that the OC doesn't decide where the football goes. You could say you take it out of his hands, run something all shallow. It's not unrealistic to send a guy deep since they assume it's a run, but it wasn't a great read (doubled) and you'd hope a guy would just know to get a guy at the sticks.

play looked like the old 940 F Corner Swing play but I didn't go back and look again. Somehow I find myself enjoying the shit out of the option series, much as I mocked the hell out of the idea that anyone could pull off (or should pull off) an NFL option. Just as long as it's more rare than it is common.

probably. I'm all for the element of surprise, for instance rushing 3 when they're keeping in 6. We still almost had pressure (Hardy was a beast today) and the idea is to inundate with coverage. I thought we had a good defensive gameplan (not the point, but I'm deep into it now) that wasn't executed well.

But that element of surprise has to have some realistic chance of working, too.

Did that good defensive gameplan include not adjusting coverage toward the TE at any point in time?

I dunno, maybe he did. I was at the game, so sometimes you miss things. From up there, the defensive gameplan looked like pure shit.

How many times did they punt? I hope McDermott gets hit by a fucking truck.

Agreed. Also, the other thing I like about passing on 3rd & 2 is that, in theory, you give Cam the option to tuck and run if it's not there. Maybe something with boot or rolling action would have been more effective for that reason.

It seemed like Graham split wide on most of those catches, so I'm not sure how much you could do differently other than instruct the guys to play tight underneath him and maybe try to jam at the line. Plus, you can't really double anyone given the plethora of receiving options for the Saints. I didn't feel like that was a scheme problem so much as Graham being an athletic freak. Godfrey actually made a couple of really nice plays to prevent completions to him, then had one or two times where he prevented the completion initially but Graham still found a way to bring it in.

    It's your bias.

    Yeah, no.

We have lots of weapons too, but they doubled Smith most of the game. You need to increase or change your coverage, not just cover with different guys, to the player thats killing you.

So how many times did they punt today?

I'm biased against McDermott because for his career as a coach, he's been a total piece of shit and a complete and utter failure. He was fired as a DC in Phili because he took a once proud defense and made it shit, and I'm not sure why anyone thought he'd all of a sudden be any good over here.

Yeah. I'm gonna go cool off for a day. I almost, and I'm not kidding, killed someone today leaving that game. It's not safe for me there. It's really not.

This isn't good considering I heard someone got hit outside the stadium after the game.

I think I'd lay low for a while!

Legedu Naanee is a starting wideout for the Panthers. Legedu Naanee. Legedu Naanee! LEGEDU NAANEE!!!

You sound like Thelt when you post things like this. You make statements with utter certainty that people with actual football knowledge would think are ridiculous.

    Welcome, NC
We're not gonna kick anybody's ass until we are able to stop somebody. We might win in a shootout but Atlanta is going to be pissed, and desperate also after last night so we may be the ones getting the ass kicking. I still think we're gonna have to hold anybody we play under 20 points to win. In all the games except Jacksonville our opponents are scoring an average of 29.5 points.

I'm worried about Newton getting discouraged after so many near misses. Hope he can keep bouncing back.
