As many interceptions as passing touchdowns, sub-60 percent completion rate, and 84.5 quarterback rating. For a rookie he's playing great, but his shortcomings are part of why the team has three losses. Fans who don't know any better think that yardage = success.

I think his 'success' so far is playing great for a rook, it's not just his stats equate for success, but it does makes for a hope of promise- hopefully for a future ofoverall success.

He's got some things to get fixed, but whether or not they can remains to be seen. So far, he's certainly been exciting, as we've all been agreesome of. And that, in itself, is better'n what we've been used to.

He could turn out to be great. He could turn out to be very average. I'm hopeful of somewhere in between, which could eventually translate into success, overall. The jury's still out. Unless he digresses a lot or gets and stays oft injured, he's probably not gonna end up being a bust.

Getting better as a team could help him out as far as being what we would consider successful. Which is my ultimate hope, anyway.

He's got a lot of clear problems that he needs to clean up if he's ever going to have any hope of being a very good quarterback, much less elite. I just hope that the coaching staff isn't riding his jock the way the fans are.

Agreesome, though I don't think knowlegeable fans are riding his jock, as much as being pleasantly surprised and giving due support for a promise of potential. You have to admit, we aren't getting blown out because of the sorry rook he was supposed to be. I certainly wasn't on his bandwaggon for a #1 overall pick.

But yeah, some folks are preaching the second coming. It gets thick.

Some fans, like me, are just happy we get to look forward to Sundays to see what happens next, and continue to be somewhat impressed by his play (and the whole Offense), considering the record and bad D/ST play.

We could be getting really embarrased. But it hasn't been that bad yet. Especially on O, and with the passing game especially.

I doubt very seriously they are. Probably quite the opposite, based on Rivera's comments yesterday about the rest of the team.

Newton himself is also doing all the right things in terms of not gloating about his stats or the hype, but I want to see some actual progress in terms of how often he's stepping into his throws.

Yeah...I gotta admit I am PLEASANTLY surprised by his attitude and the way he has carried himself so far.

His mechanics and his back foot throws are problematic, and at some point athletic ability alone won't be able to hide some of the things we expected to need fixing when he came here. How well he can focus on his mechanics will really play a big part in his long term success....in my opinion.

Based on alot of his comments I'd have to think he's aware of his faults. Unless what he says is total bullshit, he's probably his own biggest critic. It seems like he wants to be elite, which is not an everyday thing. I think he'll put in the work. I understand where you're coming from. I think your expectations are as demanding as his own for himself. I'd be more concerned if cam seemed content or cocky about his game at this point.

There's only one rookie who made it into the top 25 in league jersey sales — No. 1 draft pick Cam Newton, who at 16 sold more jerseys than Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers.
