We will win more games than last year, for sure. I bet that at this rate KC or Indy might get the first pick. As mentioned in a previous thread, that would be the Colts' (Andrew) Luck (pun intended).

I am not arguing with anyone here about what a franchise QB is. I am certainly open to many definitions of it. I think there are more than one and different folks probably consider different definitions. And there are certianly varying opinions on Cam and 'franchise QB' references.

To me, in my humble opinion- and I don't purport to be an expert, but I consider a 'franchise QB' as a starting caliber QB a team typically either signs (for instance signs like the saints did Breeze) for a long term, or drafts, who they plan to keep for a significant amount of time and essentially make him the 'face' of the franchise during that time. Brady wasn't necessarily drafted to be their franchise QB, but was put into that roll when he essentially became a starter. The player has to be way above average or he doesn't keep the job more than a coupla seasons or so.

Favre was Greenbay's franchise QB, but imo, wasn't the Vikes or NY's franchise QB.

Does a particular franchise QB have to be considered topp 5 or 10 in the league any given year or for the term? Not necessarily. Some teams make a guy a franchise QB, or essentially hope he will be, only to have him digress and end up cutting him or trading him. Breeze is the Saint's franchise QB, but was cut by San Diego in favor of Rivers, yet both because their teams' respective franchise QB. Bot have become very good, top caliber QBs, and are definitely franchise QBs. When Rivers was drafted as such, in the position he was drafted, people thought the Giants/San Diego were nuts and he'd never amount to what he has become. Nobody would have considered Brady a Franchise QB when he was drafted, until he made his debut as a replacement for a hurt QB and then doing what he did for the rest of that season..

To me, the panthers have essentially made Cam their franchise QB for now, and probably hope he pans out to be just that, and a great player for the next decade. Doesn't mean he'll pan out though. But for now, he's their/our hope to be our above average, decently winning QB for the future of the franchise. He is certianly trying and somewhat succeeding right now in doing just that, and is certainly the 'face' of the franchise right now.

If anything, the attention the panthers are getting nationwide right now, ad nauseum, is because of him (with the Rivera addition as well)- which is actually in mostly a positive light or spin, considering we are still losing with no hope of even going to the post season or finishing 500 this season.

Anyway, whether Cam becomes an even top 15 QB in his carreer for a whole season or longer remains to be seen, considering his faults. But asside from the promise of Collins in 1995 and 1996, he has the potential to help us be successfully competitive in the near future, probably moreso than any we've had, even Delhomme.

To most outsiders, he is our franchise QB right now, or is considered to be for now and the near future. Doesn't mean they are right, doesn't mean some are wrong.

Will he end up being it in actuality other than a ray of hope for this year? That's anybody's guess. At least hopefully the Panthers offense will be somewhat more exciting than the boring steaming pile of dogshit we've endured for the past few seasons, save for a couple decent blips since 2003.

good lord, we have lost 2 games and you have lost all hope? i hope you aren't representative of most of our fans. if we can sweep the teams in our division, we will be in the playoffs. not an easy task, but all 3 are beatable by .... yes, us.

have to fix the problems at safety so that we are not giving up on big plays. jordan pugh has a lot to learn and has been bit at least 3 times for TDs. fix that alone and we win our first 2 games. i've watched him just a bit and he's a quick and fearless run defender but has to eliminate giving up TDs.

also have to fix the redzone offense. haven't gone back to rewatch the games, but i'm guessing that Cam was never able to force AZ or GB from bringing the extra attacker into the box. until we can make teams pay for all the single coverage by winning a game and putting more points on the board when in the redzone, i think we are gonna continue to see 8 in the box which is gonna really stall our running game. i think teams are going to continue to force Cam to beat them and hope to get enough hits on him to rattle him or get him out of the game. i know he's superman but i don't think it good for him to be taking that many hits. if i'm a team in the division, i'm gonna blitz even moreso and hope i can end his season.

Cam is getting yardage in large chunks and putting drives together, now it's a matter of figuring out how to score. hate to see him doing so much running down there. got to learn to make those quick reads and throws in the redzone. i'd guess that Chud will have the team working overtime to get this figured out. Cam has been close but got's to get better down there. if he does soon, we will be in the playoffs - guaranteed.

    do I have hope?

Sure. But our D has to get better, along with our run game to do well this year, even with newton playing lights out @ 300+ yards per game, etc.

I meant, the media is all over us, yet we are expected to not do much this season. And it is because of Cam and especially his efforts so far (and Rivera somewhat), which was my point. Hope vs expectations for the future? That was also somewhat my point regarding what is considered a 'franchise QB'.

I thought I purty much said, who the heck knows what's gonna happen, especially with Cammy. Nobody should rule anything out at this point, or predict greatness either. And winning our division would purty much mean greatness at this point. Hope we do? Sure. Predict or think we will? No. I am as big a fan any, but I am a realist somewhat. I right now, there is no telling what happens this season at this point. But cammy has given us hope right now at being decent at the least. Which was my point to begin with. Slow your roll, baby, slow your roll.

Missing Otah, Beason, and now Davis... anybody who thinks this team makes the playoffs is delusional.

We just do not have the talent.

But I am a big fan....

    Franchise QB = handfull.

Hopes... I don't have hope of the playoffs, nor of sweeping the division. I hoped to win 5-6 games. We'll see about that.

I hoped to be competitive, and not be out of games by halftime. So far so good.

I don't agree with putting the team on Cam's back, but I guess they have their reasons for doing so. I hope they're right.
