Opens in October and is supposedly a prequel to the 1982 film of the same name. Going to be hard to top the original though. The original is one of the scariest films I've ever seen.

The 1982 film isn't the original.. John Carpenter remade it.

Ah, you are correct. It's the only one I've seen and I was really young when I saw it. Still going to be hard to duplicate the the 1982 version, at least IMHO.

The first THING movie was made in the '50s. Something about a thing killing off people at an Arctic station, maybe Antarctic. Pretty darn spooky.

It's been a while but, yeah, that's basically the premise. When the alien infects someone it hides within that person so others don't know who is human and who is the alien. I think it kills a dog in the 82 version and from the looks of the preview a dog may bite the dust in this version as well.

I don't remember that in the THING, but in another flick.

Seems the THING was something frozen in ice and scientists thaw it out, then it goes on a rampage. I can't recall exactly how it kills people.

I watched this when I was 9 so my memory may be a little fuzzy but the "scariness" of it has stuck with me. Definitely think the "thing" hides out in folks and the whole "scary" stuff, along with all the blood, etc, is the people not knowing who is infected with the "thing".

Here's the wiki link if you feel so inclined: The Thing

After reading that the 1982 flick begins with them finding the fozen ice already thawed out and the "thing" already out and about. It seems this new movie is about the folks that came before the folks in the 1982 flick and the folks in the new flick are the ones that actually "discover" and thaw out the parasite. Anyway, this one is definitely on my list to see.

James Arness played the Thing in the 1951 flick.

I remembered it was a big name that played Thing; but I was thinking Boris Karloff for some reason or other.
