not that i care (because it's not like my livelihood), but didn't know if Rivera's lockdown on practices to the media had been covered here.

all i can say is: twitter and video were guarded closely by the team at spartanburg.

gantt seems pretty upset by it.

Think he's worried that Winthrop will adopt the same standard?

The reason i stopped following him was because of his constant bitching about the players only workouts being closed.

whatever. he's just one of many folks trying to do a job. i get it.

i never like anyone putting themselves into the story--particularly when it's not designed as editorial. on the subject of access--i don't need to be hovering over rivera like a mouth-breather to do good work. know the game, point out the facts, and leave the conjecture to others that are paid by publishers desperate for stories.

    best of luck, nonetheless

I get not revealing stuff beforehand, but what I don't get is why beat writers can't break down strategy, formations, etc on Monday after the game.

Abusive, is your reporting the reason they are closing practices?

You know the game, dude. Many of these guys don't understand the nuance of the game. And if they do, they're discouraged by their editors to cross those boundaries.

Like, I couldn't go to a local women's college volleyball game and break down strategy. But, give me a few weeks of reading a book or two, and I could give some analysis.

    A lot of it is...well...laziness.

Sure, but it's more the editors I don't understand. Newspapers are dying an agonizing death, and we can all see the way people eat up analysis on this message board. So why wouldn't Persinger want to put that stuff in the paper to draw more interest? Weird. It's bizarre that they were hostile to fantasy football for some of the same reasons. The immediacy of the internet means that it will always be superior for "news," but newspapers can save their existence if they just emphasize evaluation and comment on that news. Oh well.
