You've acknowledged that JR is involved in "the major decisions", so why is it that hard to suggest they talked about who he wanted to keep? Every time this comes up, JR talks about his plan. Not Marty's plan. I don't know if they talked money down to the cent, or if the spoke in vague terms. Or if JR said to go get them at all costs. I have no idea. But I don't pretend to know for my own means, either. The end result is that JR isn't hopping around pissed off, he's bragging. Now you go use your tin foil hat and read that mind, and see what JR means by bragging.

And yet they talked to some people. We know they wanted to keep a number of players, but we have no idea who they talked to at CB, DT, WR, or whether they talked to replacement players while talking to our own.

it's a retarded thing to answer and it's a retarded thing to have anymosity about, after years. You being obsessive doesn't mean I had an integer in mind when I said "handful", and since you aren't a mind reader, you can either obsess over it until it consumes you or you can let it go. Otherwise, stop with the mind trap denial bullshit.

Marty is the general manager and has done a shitty job, no matter how much you pretend that he has no authority of his own and just carries out Richardson's orders.

The Panthers had the second most cap room of any team, but they came out of free agency with Olindo Mare & Ron Edwards. That tells the whole story.

The Merriman thing, the "handful" thing, the Luck going from solid prospect to best QB prospect in a decade over a one month period are all examples of you not being able to admit when you screw up. All this could be avoided if you were just capable of saying "I was wrong." Oh, and I thought you said that you just wanted to post about football.

    From Yas' blog:

You may remember me saying I hope Hurney front loads the re-signings so we'd be able to go for it in '12. I remain pissed at him.

Of course, I never said "he has no authority", and you'd piss and moan about that if I did it to you, so you'll be happy to take that back, right?

The idea that Marty and JR are on the same page on this should be of no shock. It's just messy for you because you want to remove JR, because you're not interested in evaluating what happened, you're interested in getting someone fired.

I mean, don't you think it's even mildly important for a boss to evaluate based on what he wants out of an employee, rather than what you want him to want?

no, it really doesn't. Any team that landed the best back and DE in free agency would be noteworthy.

My opinion changed on Luck. So what? I've said "I was wrong" within this thread, without prompt. That I won't bark at your commands, sorry. But, by all means, hold onto a decade's worth of angst and pretend you're clearheaded.

Bummer. Why would they try to have any cap room in 2011 when everyone is already gone? It's not like anyone good is going to get cut at this point. They should put as much of Kalil's money as possible under the '11 cap instead of pushing that money to future years when the team could actually use it.

No, that's exactly what you're saying. Every time I criticize one of Hurney's moves, you try to say that Richardson is the one responsible.

Considering that the franchise would be vastly better off if he were evaluating based on what I want, no, I definitely think it would be better if he thought like me. Hurney is already a laughingstock. The Delhomme extension, the Everette Brown thing, the Armanti Edwards thing, it just goes on and on. He's a joke, and the fact that he still has a job is an even bigger farce.

Actually, quite a few places had DEs rated higher than Charles Johnson, such as this one: http://walterfootball.com/freeagents2011DE.php And in any evaluation, Ray Edwards would be considered very close to CJ, but Atlanta got him for less than half of what the Panthers paid. Meanwhile DeAngelo was the consensus top RB, but you said yourself that this team didn't need to re-sign him.

Your opinion changed drastically on Luck over the course of a single month with only the bowl game played during that period, and it wasn't because you suddenly saw something great in him. You went with the media hype, just as you've gone from criticizing Newton before the draft to now praising him based on media stories instead of actual performance. Your opinion can't be trusted because you change it on a whim for off-field nonsense, and because you can't admit to being wrong when you're proven so.

Only thing I can come up with is there could be a trade in the works, or he expects a player or players getting cut that he'd need the cash for.

Or maybe he'll give another core player a new bigger deal :drink:

Show me where I've said "Marty Hurney has no authority."

    Please.

so the owner should evaluate on your wants, not his? Seriously? You expect him to fire his employee despite what would seem to be satisfaction in his own eyes. Realism isn't big in your world.

okay, then "shades of gray that are very close to 'Any team that landed the best back and DE in free agency would be noteworthy' that we had to change the shade of gray on for no reason other than minor appeasement of Collin.

it was whether or not he was worth the first overall pick, and I'm fine with what I said. You can feel free to hold onto it for a few decades if you want.
