Locking up your own guys has less risk than signing a guy from another team. You ought to know a lot about your own guy, stuff like his health, what kind of teammate he is, how hard does he work, is he likely to be in trouble off the field, etc. I think that is one reason you might pay a little more to keep your own guy. Another factor is that some guys do very well in a specific system but struggle once they leave that system. Alvin Harper was great in Dallas but struggled in Tampa. You know if your own guy is a fit in your system.

To me the best way to build a strong team is to keep your own players who are good and then to draft well. Free agents should only be a small part of it.

Ugh. Now you're back to pretending that Hurney is blameless for all of his draft and contract mistakes because somehow Richardson was responsible for all of them? Please stop embarrassing yourself with that nonsense.

I didn't say that they never talked to anyone, I said that they obviously weren't ever serious about bringing in significant outside talent if the plan all along was to give these huge contract extensions to guys already with the team, and you already agreed that it was the plan. There is X amount of money under the cap, magnus, and giving out those contracts took almost all of it. If they always intended to do so, and you already said that you believe they did, then clearly they never had any intention of going after guys like Mebane, Cofield, or Wilson.

The proof is you spending multiple pages not answering the simple question of how many you meant by "a handful." When you know you've said something dumb and that I'm going to prove you wrong, you start obfuscating and refusing to answer direct questions instead of just having the maturity to say "Oops, that was wrong."

Not really, as a lot of guys sign big contract extensions with their team and then get lazy. Plus some guys just benefit from a change of scheme and scenery.

Paying "a little more" for your own guys is one thing, but the Panthers are paying tens of millions of dollars more than other teams offered on several players.

How do you not understand that this means you should pay less for that type of player since it's in their best interests to stay with you?

And you're wrong. You've been proven wrong in the past, and it's been explained to you why you're still wrong. You just want to ignore reality because you wish this was true instead of acknowledging that Hurney completely fucked the Panthers for many years to come.

Is there anyone on this board who agrees with giving a 35 million dollar contract extension to Thomas Davis?

I'm just going to keep using the Collin v. Mags cage match threads (which I actually enjoy) as another avenue to plug my projects. All other whores like me should do the same.

You telling me I am wrong does not mean that I am proven wrong. You are not always right and not everyone will always agree with you. Shocking as that fact is, you need to learn to cope with it.
