I wasn't able to watch the game, so I've taking in the highlights. Anyone seen a clip of the Pilares TD? None of the highlight reels I've found include it. I know it was 3s vs. 3s, but I'd still like to see it. Post a link if you have one, por favor.

I don't have the clip, but I'd bet panthers.com has some highlight package posted with all the TD's. It was an impressive play. Nice bubble screen, good block by Charly Martin, and excellent catch and acceleration by Pilares. Well called, well executed.

he's done a good job imprinting what he wants on his team in a short time. Especially given the lack of that second practice. But, since what we run is technically complex it probably worked out.
yeah, it's tough to throw JC under the bus on the pick 6 - wet, receiver wasn't necessarily attentive and may not have had a crisp route - but you still throw at the receiver, not way past the receiver. It was a high ball.

if there was a signing that cost them a bunch, maybe. Otherwise, I think they'd definitely want to play both, and Shockey makes more sense as the Y TE and Olsen as the move guy. Longterm it'll be interesting to see if they do have Olsen as a base TE more, and if so whether he is expected to block or if he just stands up most of the time like Walls or Novacek.

    yep.

    Hope their kicker is OK.

FWIW, I thought it was neat we used two punters and two kickers. Never understood rostering the extra K and never letting him have a shot at a preseason FG.

not on the nfl.com highlights, for some reason. They showed the Edwards non-TD twice instead of the actual TD.

Fua was a mirage. He had that one play where he got to the QB, and that was only because he was completely unblocked. The #46 blitzes I did enjoy because they were so nicely timed. McDermott had one LB blitzing early to occupy the back, then 46 came after a second or two of delay. Kudos to the DC for play design, and the players for executing it properly.

This is precisely the reaction I'm scared of. Clausen actually played much better at QB than Cam last night, but the average fan will think that Cam played a lot better because he looked the part. He was tall in the pocket, confident, and firing passes downfield. What he wasn't was accurate, reading the defense, or showing good passing technique. Trust me, there is not elite passer potential there.

Jimmy actually had a pretty good showing aside from the inexcusable interception where he panicked under pressure. If you're going to miss on that throw, then you have to miss towards the sideline. He wasn't exceptionally accurate either, but better than Cam, plus he actually looked off the coverage and read where he should be putting the ball. As much as he had a reputation for cockiness, it would really help him if he had some of Newton's confidence and was therefore more willing to take shots downfield. Unfortunately he has no chance here, as the fans will start booing him the second he does anything wrong.

LaFell looked the best by far. Pilares only had the one screen catch, and that only worked because Charlie Martin held the shit out of the corner. I'm amazed they didn't call it because the jersey was being pulled pretty far. Meanwhile Edwards' only catch came when the Giants inexplicably left him wide ass open. I didn't see anything from him in terms of route running.

And just to reiterate, the lack of pass rush and the shaky pass coverage are major concerns. New York should have completed a lot more passes than they did, although Stanford twice made a nice play to prevent completions. The team has to find a way to get pressure from the front four, as blitzing leaves the coverage even more exposed. Meanwhile the pass protection was garbage from all the units, although the Giants are much deeper in pass rushers than most teams.
