Some owner in the Texas group traveled with the Texas contingent to meet with Lee on Thursday and rumor has it he alone will pay Lee's salary to get the deal done. He is some billionaire who wants to win and will let the other owners pay the rest of the players salaries. The difference between the NY offer and Texas isn't too much, and Texas's no state tax per Colin Cowherd of ESPN even smaller. Of the Yankees offer he's have to pay 3 mil a year in state and city taxes which don't come into play for the Rangers.

rethinking the lineup, I'd lean toward putting scutaro in as trade bait and insert lowrie at shortstop. switch hitter and he looked good once he got healthy. I wish they'd considered keeping bill hall for just such a scenario.

Pretty hard to believe with that talent they start off 2-9, but on the other hand they were playing the Rangers and Yankees, not patsies. And the Indians are off to a good start. Still, they haven't looked very good and the starting pitching has been very bad other than Beckett the other night.

All right grid - let's get this cranked back up. Should be a great run into the playoffs. I'd feel really good if Bucholz hadn't screwed up his back.

i agree. this team is gonna have to outslug its way thru the playoffs. Hoping the angels catch the rangers and the tigers finish with a better record than the west winner. sox-angels, yanks-tigers. Verlander looks pretty much unbeatable.

bullpen is gonna hurt this team. franklin morales is plain awful. dubront has been battling injuries in pawtucket, otherwise he's be the obvious answer for a pen lefty. miller wont be in the rotation, obviously. maybe he'll be more effective as a reliever. what a disappointment he is. afraid to throw a fastball and when he does it gets clocked.

miller and hopefully dubront stablizing the pen will be key. that and that fuckface Lackey at least earning half his salary.

thought bedard looked ok last nite. had a couple bad breaks (reddick error; forgets to cover first on a ground ball to pedroia that got past gonzalez; bloop single that reddick may have caught had he dived).
