Look, here it is. The guys that cover the team are smart guys. Experienced.

But sometimes, some of them are too shallow-brained to consider that just because a player is dominant in basketball shorts, doesn't mean it will translate on Sundays.

    Uh, Taye Biddle, anyone?:champagne:

And, the guy that used to cover the team had a clear and obvious slant on the Edwards story. Probably because they, um, went to the same school. No hate there...just facts.

    he skeeted this yesterday

daringantt Pads will also be telling. Armanti's looking good now, but how he holds up with contact will be a deciding factor. Tough kid though.

Only things I couldn't stand with Gantt and Armanti was the constant excuse of Fox. That's fine. The observer reported AE didn't come to camp in receiver shape - it happens. A lot of rooks don't get how trained you have to be, but it's still a fuckup. Don't pretend that they're playing the two rookies that looked better because of a grudge.

WR Armanti Edwards anxious for a clean slate with new coaching staff

    July 26th, 2011, 3:25 pm · Post a Comment · posted by sreed
I spoke with Armanti Edwards (you won’t recognize him with his dreadlocks gone, by the way) briefly on Tuesday and he talked about having a fresh start in Carolina under new head coach Ron Rivera. Edwards didn’t come out and say it, but it was fairly obvious John Fox wasn’t his biggest fan.
“It’s a clean slate,” Edwards said of the new coaching staff. “It’s my second year, but it’s my first year with the new coaches, so I’m going to have a chance to try to impress them.”
Edwards is hoping to prove the naysayers wrong and step up this year in training camp. He failed to catch a pass last year.
“I’ve been working on punt returning and playing receiver this offseason and that’s something I didn’t do much of last season,” Edwards said.
Edwards struggled making the transition from college quarterback at Appalachian State to receiver/returner at the NFL level in part because he wasn’t in shape to play those positions. He got a little worn down early on. He said he feels like he’s in “much better shape” than he was a year ago.

Armanti Edwards said last season - when he barely played as a rookie trying to make the change from star college quarterback at Appalachian State to NFL receiver - was "one of the lowest points" of his football career.

Edwards said he lost confidence, particularly on punt returns.

"Last year I didn't trust myself," he said.

He has spent a large part of the summer working on route techniques with former Panther receiver Muhsin Muhammad, who has tried to get Edwards to use his hands more to get off the jams that NFL cornerbacks employ to throw receivers off-stride.

How that will all work out remains to be seen, but I will say that Edwards looks far more comfortable circling under a punt right now than he did in last year's practices.

Magnus: Armanti (as a qb) not coming into camp in receiver shape is like you going to a camp looking for pussy.

    You gotta learn the position.

It's been 16 months since you posted anything about something other than me. Which is fantastic. Keep up the good work, see you again in a few months.
