Decent way to create mismatches, since not many defenses run nickle against regular personnel. If they do, you can check to a run. Having Olsen and Shockey makes us a lot more flexible.

Lack of a lead blocker is an obvious flaw.

Who was the lead blocker when running the "Philly" formation? But you're right that the mismatch potentials are there. They go nickle you audible run. They go 4-3 you motion out your back. Feels like a dink-n-dunk formation with a chance for breaking big ones once in a while.

Still, I'm interested in seeing what others would like to see formation wise with our current talent pool this year.

FB or TE used as an H back lead blocked in the "Philly", I believe.

We ran draw out of that sometimes, for whatever reason. The real advantage to that formation is the defense having to guess the strongside. Same w/ a lot of 2TE stuff.

He holds the NCAA D1 record for all-purpose yards. Just because we haven't thrown to him, doesn't mean he can't.

His scouting report coming out of college:
"As a receiver, he has very good hands and is well- developed to be a threat immediately in that role. He shows the ability to get into his routes easily and get consistently open. He displays fine route-running ability with a keen awareness of defensive coverage and soft spots in pass defense. He is dangerous after the catch and follows his blockers well, showing the ability to change speeds and set up defenders."

Just piles on to the questionable offensive play-calling that Carolina has had over the last 5-6 years.

If Shockey can stay healthy I think we should run a lot of two tight end stuff. As long as our running back in that formation can pick up the blitz and block fairly well then it should work pretty well. You could run or pass out of it. You would not have a lead blocker but a tight end on either side helps offset that. The Redskins used to run a lot of one back sets under Joe Gibbs.

Henning was archaic and Davidson was retarded, but I blame a lot of that on John Fox. I don't think he ever held the offense to the same standard that he had for the defense. Hopefully Rivera changes that.

Fiammetta is going to be good enough for how long we need him, but we'll definitely be using more 2 TE so no reason to upgrade in the short term anyway.
