I'm not doing cartwheels over it, but it's a need. Better than being stuck with young players who just suck.

Is he even an upgrade over Landri? Speaking of which, I wonder if he's coming back.

I read somewhere that they are not expected to bring him back.

Also, that Fox/Denver have him on their list of wants.

    Edit to add:

I haven't read a lot of good about Edwards really, but then I considered that Rivera would be familiar with him from the AFC West so I feel somewhat encouraged by that.

Ron seems like the type of player we were missing last year. I do like Landri as a sub package guy.

Yeah I liked Landri last year to an extent. Not worth breaking the bank for, but he was competent and played pretty darn well down the stretch.

I hope they aren't banking on anything from Corvey Irvin. That ship has sailed.

Landri's no prize, but at least he's young.

Edwards and Landri are 2 completely different types. Edwards is a big strong slow space eater. The kind of guy the could be MIA in the stat line but still be effective if he ties up 2 blockers and let's the LB's flow. Landri is more of a quickness guy that gets moved off the LOS if he lets OL get engaged. So it's more a statement to me that Rivera wants DTs that occupy blockers more than penetrating playmakers.

Good to see them address the need at DT. I do not know enough about this guy to say if it was too much money or not.

Scouts Inc has Edwards the 48th best DT in the league...equal grade to Shaun Cody, Tony Brown, Fred Robbins, Gabe Watson....rated higher than Ron Brace, Roy Miller, Tank Tyler, Louis Leonard....

Ron Edwards Scouting Report - Scouts, Inc.

    Grade: 64 | Key

Comment: Edwards has the prototypical build for a nose tackle in that he plays with a good pad level and does a good job of keeping his pads below his opponents. He is quick off the ball and does a good job of recognizing blocking schemes. He is able to leverage his way to the ball. He shows good hand use and can keep blockers at bay as he locates the level of the ball. He is the type who can anchor up the middle and hold his ground but lacks the explosiveness and agility to be much of a pass-rusher from the middle. He can occupy opponents and keep his linebackers clean behind him.
