In 2003 we had Julius Peppers and Steve Smith. In 2012 we'll have Cam Newton and random defensive end picked too highly next season.

We also had Chris Weinke, Sean Gilbert, and Jimmy "no acls" Hitchcock, so what's your point?

Did you project Steve Smith to be one of the most dangerous weapons in the NFL at that time? If so, please link. Preesh.

Those uniforms are getting way too gay for me. Sorry.

Yeah, I am not thinking SB run in '12 for sure.

Competitive by '12, better than that in '13 would be great.

No, I was pissed because they spent a third round pick on a returner with injury and character issues, but that doesn't change the fact that he was still Steve Smith. Players are what turn around teams, as Julius and Steve did. That superstar isn't on the Panthers' roster right now, and we've shackled ourselves to a decent but not great QB with accuracy problems who will probably be making a huge amount of money that will eat up a lot of our cap space. There is not a lot of young talent on this roster, in part because Hurney traded away so many first round picks. If you don't overhaul the roster or get rid of your terrible GM, then you're the Bengals and Raiders.

So basically, you were wrong then, but you aren't wrong now. Gotcha.

Just a quick check - how many number one picks have panned out well for the Panthers?

we might not have much elite talent since 2008 because of trades, but I'd wholeheartedly disagree that we don't have young talent.

In the end, you never know, and being in a new situation full of young, moldable talent is better than a stagnant standoff between an owner, a coach, and a labor contract.

EXACTLY. We're not turning into the Bengals because we cut a bunch of old role players, one overpaid lazy ass DE, one QB who became color-blind, and possibly this year, a WR on the down slope of his career.
There is plenty of talent on this team.
Within 2 years, we're back in the playoff hunt. Watch.
