you definitely would like to let him sit a year, but I don't think they will.

I dunno- I'm honestly not as worried that he's going to be undisciplined. Accuracy still is, but that's going to have to come around whether he sits or not.

I do believe them when they say he's grasping the O. It'll be enough to start him.

Been thinking we should bring back Jake since the season ended.

I saw some NFL footage of Jake doing a pretty good job working with McCoy, but I'm not sure how much he could really do besides generic platitudes. I guess he could work with Newton on the preparation side, but it's not like Jake ever had good technique, habits, or decision-making.

Just what every young QB needs in a mentor. Jake has proven that he can't win anymore. If he's not the man in the saddle then, his leadership boils down to nothing more than a shoulderpad-clad cheerleader. As quoted above, he brings nothing to the table but nostalgia and nostalgia will not help Newton achieve the damn-near impossible, herculean task of being a franchise (great) NFL QB.

As far as mentor, a vet QB would be able to help with game situations etc., but I thought we were talking in terms of having a vet to play until Newton is ready (I use the term loosely).

We have Shula to do the teaching.
