    3rd round, if it happens.

I'm doubtful Smith leaves at all. I think it would be best for both Smith and the Panthers if he were to be traded, but the CBA fight is only going to get nastier and that means the start of the season might not happen until a month into the regular schedule.

That leaves no time to find a trade partner. Smith and the Panthers may have to make do.

I'm hopeful that we can find a trade partner, but a guy at his stage usually just gets released.

I have no doubt that he'll go before the end of his contract, but the CBA situation does mean we're screwed in terms of getting compensation.

I have not read the part bolded anywhere before.

If Oakland is truly a viable option (and why wouldn't it be, since we own Smith's rights), grab Tommy Kelly and whip his fat, lazy ass into shape.

Wait: you'd have to assume that hideous contract. Nevermind.

If we can not get something decent for him, 3rd round pick or better then I say just hang on to him. He may be unhappy but he can still play when he wants to. Maybe Cam and him end up getting along. Letting him walk for a 6th round pick is not going to help our team. Getting rid of his salary is not going to help much either since we are already have one of the cheapest rosters in the league.

Who knows the new offense might end up suiting him and making him happy.
