actually, the BFE raised its standards by letting the ACC take its garbage.

LOL...in the 7 years previous to leaving, that "garbage" Miami team won a share of a Big East title, finished second three other times, third once, went to the NCAA's four times, and finished .500 in the conference five times.

last two years in the Big East: 2002-03, Miami and VaTech were 4-12 in conference, tied for last place. 2003-04, Miami was 4-12, VaTech was 7-9. Two teams that had indeed established themselves as BFE trash, ready to move to a conference where they could be more competitive.

...yes to be replaced with noted hoops powers Depaul and South Florida. So basically the Big East jettisoned their trash to the ACC, then picked up Conference USA's trash?

Basically gave up Blacksburg TV market, if there even is one, while at the same time keeping South FL and gaining Chicago. Makes sense to me.

Yeah, the way I remember it is that the ACC didn't even want Virginia Tech and were basically forced to take them to get BC and Miami. Ironic now given that VT has had more success in football than either BC or Miami since the move.
