My statement was in response to mag's comment regarding people on the board. People on this board and what they think about newton is not important.

Hurney and Rivera think he's franchise, that's important. And I hope they're right, because alot is riding on it.

I don't think anyone's offering a trade. A good enough one and we might have bite, because I'm sure there are the same nerves/debates about Cam. But I don't think its coming.

But there's no smoke screen. Cam on top of their board IMO, abiet a nervous board. Very little to gain IMO.

When we took Peppers, he visited, Harrington visited, Jammer visited. I think even Sims visited.

We visited with Cam for two days. Has anyone else other than the QBs?

I am not sure you really need to with anyone beside the QB's. you would work them more on the playbook and defensive coverages more than the others.

If they draft him, I'll get behind him and hope for the best. I just think going another direction would be better.

Mayock's got a "gut feeling" that Cam will be a bitch.

Headline doesn't speak to Mayock's other comment:

If only we had a viable trading partner. Then again, if only Andrew Luck wasn't a fucking nerd. Then again, we're taking the thug and it'll be some interesting (if not productive) shit.

    Mayock on Cam

NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock is one of the folks not entirely convinced the Panthers will select Cam Newton Thursday night. They could trade down or take a defensive player at No. 1. If Carolina does take him, Mayock worries about Newton’s drive.
“It’s just this gut feeling I have: I don’t know how great he wants to be,” Mayock said on the Dan Patrick Show Monday. ”He’s got all the tools. Mechanically, he’s way beyond where Tim Tebow and Vince Young were as college quarterbacks. . . . He’s got everything on the physical side.”
Mayock just isn’t convinced Newton’s drive to be the best quarterback in the game.
“Something tells me that he’ll be content to be a multimillionaire who’s pretty good,” Mayock said. ”And doesn’t get it done for me.”
While admitting Newton has handled the pre-draft process well, it’s telling that a final evaluation of Newton (and others) often comes down to a gut feeling, even for the best draft analysts and decision makers. And Mayock just isn’t feeling Newton.
“I think the kid is smart enough. I just don’t know if he cares enough,” Mayock said. ”And I don’t know how you qualify that either. The kid has done everything right.”

So, basically, Mayock is just rambling. Which he usually doesn't do.

I am no fan of Sorenson but his column the other day was pretty spot on. If they take Cam half the fans will be happy the other half pissed off.

That really seems the case here on the board too.

Yes, he's polarizing. This is probably a smart enough venue (TBR) to question him for the right reasons, which can't be said about other MB's.

I'm not Bill Walsh, but I'm confident in my study of the game. His accuracy issues can be improved upon. I don't know if there's a "fix", but then again, I don't know if there needs to be a complete overhaul of his motion. Footwork, posture, awareness: all things he will be drilled on, wherever he lands.

I can't stress enough how vital it will be for this guy to have a strong-minded HC. Rivera has some of that Coughlin in him, without the dramatics and bi-polar. Ron has a ring, and can flash that shit to just about any rookie who dares to cross him. More importantly, he's a coach that played, at a high-level, and understands how to win championships. (not to mention, he was part of the most dysfunctional cast of characters to win a SB in NFL History--1985).

I really wish we had that 2nd round pick back. But, we don't. I'll be content if we take him, and I'll be content if we don't. I just don't think Dareus is worthy of #1 overall. PP7 or Green, to me, would be--if the need was in alignment with the BPA factor.

We may all think we understand the essence of Chud's offense, which has certain concepts that may not fit Cam's game. I think it's also fair to say that you always have to be innovative, and use your QB in the most productive way possible. If you have a guy that's as big as Urlacher in size, and is one of the faster players on the field, it's safe to expect some mods to the playbook to utilize these skills. Vick was at his best, in Atlanta, when they let him do his thing. When Greg Knapp tried to force-feed this "you WILL be a pocket passer" horseshit, he was not as productive. Vick is productive now because he's playing for a great HC/OC, and the system works for him, instead of the other way around.

So, there's the question: does Chico want the QB to work for the system, or is he willing to let the system work for the QB? That will determine if Newton is the guy, or if it's Bulger + Clausen for a couple years until "that guy" comes around again.
