they are not going to release McNabb( not that I'd want him anyway) and if Hurney traded for him I might kick his ass myself

Sign a veteran QB, take your pick of who you think will be available either in free agency or via trade, and then let Clausen be the back up.

No way Clausen should be handed the #2, in any scenario.

Remember, there's a lockout. I'd be surprised if Clausen isn't the opening day starter just by default.

Clausen will know as much about our new offense as anyone else we bring in at this juncture. New coach, new O.

We can't bring anyone else in until the labor issue is settled. No guarantee it will be settled before preseason.

If we draft Newton or any other QB we can not work with him until the labor deal is settled. The only timing advantage of a rookie is that we can start working with him as soon as a deal gets done while a veteran would probably not sign the first day after a deal is done. We might lose a week or so of time but then again a veteran is going to have more than a week head start on a rookie.

I think Clausen should be the back up. Sure he sucked last year but he never should have been playing that soon. We have a fairly high draft pick invested in him so I think it is too early to completely give up on him.
