Precisely because he's not a "lockdown" corner. His actual technique and instincts at corner are just average, if not worse. He makes up for things with his incredible athleticism, but he also has a gambler's mentality where he likes to take risks for the big play. Prince Amukamara is the much better corner.

I'd gamble on being able to refine his technical skills before doing the same with Newton, even if it means moving him to safety.

he has an exceptional combination of size and speed, and it's been rare that specifically will make as big a difference in the pros.

Plus Green owned him too many times when they matched up. I'd prefer not drafting the lesser of two foes.

That said, if we did, I'd not complain. I think he'll be a better player for us for a much longer time and help us for a much longer time than Dareus would.

Watch Dareus turn into DT God with all this shit I'm saying....

Yeah, I just have no idea why you're against Dareus. There are really no reasons not to think that guy is going to be very good right away and continue to be at that level for years, obviously barring injury.

Going along with a theme from another thread top 10 cb's aren't likely to be busts either. Usually they can make up what they lack in skill with athleticism. Peterson is probably better than either Terrance Newman or Trufant coming out but a step below Champ Bailey or Charles Woodson. Those two were complete CB's coming out and Peterson doesn't really compare. So if you are looking for someone who can contribute and not bust he's one to look at especially with his return ability ( I heard his return avg was better than Hester's coming out but i haven't looked it up). So while he wont be some miracle in the secondary he will be able to contribute and not bust completely.

I think Peterson would make a dynamite free safety.

This is something else that diminishes his bust factor. He has the size to move inside to safety if the transition proves to be unsuccessful at CB. While our safeties are okay I don't think anybody here would object to an upgrade. If people don't think safeties can impact a defense look at what Eric Berry and Earl Thomas did last year. Not sure Peterson could impact quite in that way having never played the position.
