And for all the crap people said he still went in round 1.

At least the guys shitting on Newton on the TV have him rated about the 16th best player or so.

3 years from now it wont matter where he was drafted. Its whether he is still on the team making an impact. They play good enough they all get new contracts.

Uh ... it was not hard to tell that Harvey and Gholston were going to be busts. In fact, you can go search through TBR posts to find people saying exactly that. My problem with Newton is that he's a very, very high risk pick for what I absolutely do not believe is very high reward. I think that in the best case he can become a good quarterback who wins more games than he loses, but there is virtually no chance of him becoming a true franchise talent. He just doesn't have that type of ceiling as a passer, and while his mobility will definitely be a plus, that type of shit doesn't last long. Look at McNabb.

In any case, I think it's fair to say that no one knows everything and that everyone makes mistakes on prospects, but let's not say that "nobody really knows shit" because that simply isn't true. If I didn't have the results to prove that I'm really, really good at projecting college players to the NFL, then I wouldn't spend all the hours I do studying games in order to write ridiculously long articles about it.

Newton just got turbo retrofitted and propelled by the media who needed some magical front-runner to suddenly appear so they would have something (ANYTHING) to write and talk about for a few months. A clear number one pick overall had to be fabricated since it didn't (and still doesn't) exist.

    A rule of thumb:

When the media gets bored they should be ignored.

don't remember where now but that comparison of newton to willie beamen is close enough . .. especially where he can't fathom the playbook, and his endorsement whoring. Newton has "post your ads here" written all over him

Well we shall see where Cam goes. Along with how well he plays. How he deals himself with the media and how he is a team player and a team leader along the way. Now won't we?

Wow, that is spectacularly idiotic. Talking about a Newton pick buying time for the coach is absurd since Rivera was just hired and would get at least two seasons regardless of who they pick. And then the idea that Newton would somehow convince businesses to buy luxury boxes is ridiculous. It's like the guy doesn't even know who he's writing about, as he claims that the Panthers struggled the last few seasons before Peppers left.
