I am. He didn't have the pieces in place to win. Get him a healthy o line, another year or so, and a more experienced reciever group and he may prove some people wrong. The other option, which is irrational, would be release a 2nd rd draft pick because he didn't win last year.

Not the only other option, but if they were to cut him loose it would not be because he didn't win last year, it would be because they don't believe he can win period.

Doubt Marty allows that to happen as it would make him look bad. Or worse.

Not many DT's have been drafted that high between that 03 year and last year.

In fact 03 was so bad that none were selected in the top 10 the following 2 years. Before that you had Ryan Sims, before that Gerard Warren and before that Corey Simon. How long ago was the Russell draft?

In 2006 you had Ngata at 12.

    In 2007 Okoye went 10.

2008 you had Dorsey and Ellis. Didnt Ellis miss his entire first year? Both appear to be coming along now but are they worthy top 10 selections?

Last year you has Suh and McCoy. You'll get no arguement from me on Suh but McCoy came along alot slower.

So in over 10 years i rate 2 DTs as being top 10 worthy, Suh and Ngata.

not relavent. The statement was clausen looked bad bcause of the line and any qb would be bad behind this line. I provided an example of a worse line in which a qb was successful. Furthermore we've had far worse lines and the qb performed better than clausen. Mechanics and footwork can be fixed. You can learn to make better reads. However if you're chicken shit, that can't be fixed. If you can't stand in the pocket and ignore the prssure when its coming, you'll never be a good nfl qb.

Good point. Didn't see that many panther games last year but what I saw of Clausen I'd have to agree. huge lack of poise. Clausen is obviously a big question mark, especially for a new coaching staff. I'd love to know exactly how Rivera and Chud feel about him. I'd bet they are uneasy. Heard recently that Moore's shoulder isn't coming along well and if he won't be 100% going into camp there is another QB they can't hang a hat on. Pike is a guy who honestly can't even be considered. I bet they have a few possible rooks on their radar to develop, and a few FA's like Bulger and Volek. I would hope that the earliest pick they plan on using for a QB is 98 though. Who could they draft there that would fit the new system?

From all I've gathered Ponder and Kaepernick are mobile but they don't have the poise of a Stanzi or Yates, who are pretty statue-like. Pat Devlin might be worth considering late.

Who is this years Brady? :flameme:

    Why?

And if you're going to say arm strength, please be specific.

A rookie that has no poise in the pocket is common. We've just gotten use to seeing guys like Sanchez, Flacco, and Bradford come in and play lights out, that is not the norm. Keep in mind that Clausen didn't get the reps with the starters throughout camp and preseason. it was never the intent, of the team, to have him starting his rookie season. It looked as though he was overwhelmed with the speed of the game, but over time the game will slow down for him and he'll become more comfortable. The situation he was put in was unfortunate. I would compare it to being the 1st mate, on the titanic, being put at the helm once the captain abandoned the position. The job was too big for any rookie.

he's nowhere near ready, very raw. Arm is OK, but technique isn't great. There's the obvious idea of him needing to gain weight, but more than that he needs a few years watching people do it as professionals.

Yeah, the main point would be that Pike is the least experienced one on the least experienced QB roster in the NFL. I have a hard time buying that the new staff will draft a QB #1 (or possibly with any of their picks) since they will need more experience, not less.
