Really interesting, especially the idea that 08, 09 were going to be full on years, and if they didn't work out, 10 would be a rebuild.

Richardson also states that nothing on the field was impacted by the CBA issues.

Which, I agree with, and said before the season. It was a good time to dump contracts, from a future competitive standpoint, and we know Richardson wanted to play youth. There was, after 09, reason to suggest youth should play. We got it in spades, and that didn't work out offensively, but it did defensively. We all expected it the opposite, if I recall.

They didn't have to make us worse than an expansion team.

they probably weren't expecting however many different quarterbacks to shit the bed.

I mean, realistically, there's a difference between what we did and what most teams would do to rebuild - most teams would have some vets, and any vet cheap enough to stay that didn't start, was cut. Certainly, Fox's insistence on vets exascerbated that, or else the team wouldn't have been stubborn about a veteran QB.

They should have either extended Fox, and made sure he was up for the rebuild, or let him walk after the 2009 season. Keeping a guy as head coach for the first year of a rebuild when he is not part of the long range plans and not really in agreement with the rebuild plan makes no sense. They have done that twice now with both Siefert and Fox.

IIRC they [Richardson, Hurney, et al] told his agent after the '09 season that he was free to shop his services around and if he was given an offer from another team the Panthers would release him from the final year of his contract, requiring no compensation. They were no takers, so Fox stayed for '10 season.
