oh well. this is most definitely a cost savings move, but it's not much of cap relief move.

nazr was in the last year of his contract, so all the cats are really saving is on wallace. without him, next year they'll have about $48 million in salary. there'll be cap room unless the cap drops down to a crazy level, but not enough to sign a superstar even if one decided to come to charlotte. not without moving more contracts.

the cats will likely end up in the 6-8 million range in terms of cap space, but who knows what the rules will be under the next cba.

wonder what this will do to the playoff push. doubt it's gonna help much.

edit: lol. apparently the cats are also going to waive mcguire, derick brown, and collins after they get through waiving mo pete and sean marks (who was included in the wallace trade). wow. if you can't afford an nba team, why on earth would you buy one?

I'd think it kills it, but I prefer to look at it as the begining of our quest for the 2014-2015 NBA Championship.

i'd say the chances of the bobcats winning the 2014-2015 nba championship are probably only slightly better than the bobcats ceasing to exist prior to the 2014-2015 season.

when you look at the series of moves made today, they basically traded away gerald wallace for a couple late 1st round picks. chances are pretty good that neither of these picks will be the player wallace has been for the bobcats. but it could be worse, i suppose. jordan could have traded for the #1 overall pick and grabbed another kwame brown.

Chances are too though that Gerald Wallace isn't going to be the player Gerald Wallace has been for the Bobcats going forward. I freely concede that this is a step backwards for the team, but sometimes you've got to take a step backwards to move forward.

It is better to be a lottery team than a #8 seed. The current team was never going to be a contender.

but this wasn't about moving forward, this was about being cheap. i get the idea of taking a step backwards to help create a better future, but that's a hard sell when you're getting your first real taste of success.

so you're saying the first 5 years were better than the last 2?

i dunno. i tend to think people who play lotto in the hopes of winning it all are kinda foolish.

Considering ESPN was originally reporting the trade was Wallace for Pryz and a second, I'm happy we at least got two firsts coming. Does anyone have the years? I think we have this years Hornets pick if its not Top 7 and 2013 Blazers pick if its not Top 12.

Other than that, this REALLY sucks. I was hoping we could make another playoff push but that's hard to imagine now. We've lost two of our top 4/5 rebounders and if Pryz doesn't show up/retires we've got no backup behind Kwame. I understand that Wallace may have peaked physically and was due a lot of money, but he's the only identity the franchise has had. Would it have been so bad to just hold on to him?

Two salary dumps since Jordan took over. The team is officially his, the blood is on his hands from here on out. We got a taste of playoffs but that's done now. Truthfully, we likely already were out of the playoffs even keeping Wallace but you never knew what could happen. The schedule didn't look good and our tiebreakers were shot.

We've got to sign a FA. Can Jordan leverage his celebrity and business and bring a Team Jordan All Star here? Can he bring Steph Curry home? There's no doubt that our salary cap was in dire straights two years ago, we've made room now. Can we do anything with it?

For this season, we need Tyrus to come back. Apparently we had to cut Sharron Collins, Dominic Macguire and Derrick Brown. Really sad to hear about D-Brown and I can't figure out why we had to cut him. I would have rather cut Sean Marks (not sure if that's allowed.) The other guy we got from Portland is supposed to be a lot like D-Brown.

Really hard to spin this in a positive light as a Bobcats fan. Makes me happy I didn't renew my tickets the last two weeks. Don't think I will, next year won't be pretty. Unless we hit the lottery with our own pick we'll have two picks in a terrible draft.

I am not sure this really hurts us that much this year. DJ and Jackson have been carrying the load this year. If Thomas comes back strong they may still squeak into the playoffs. Wallace was not as good this year for whatever reason. I am thinking you will see more of Jackson at the 3 and Henderson get more minutes.

With three first round picks maybe we get lucky and find a stud.
